• After 15+ years, we've made a big change: Android Forums is now Early Bird Club. Learn more here.

It seems like I hear nothing but complaints about this phone on this board...

That's because people don't take the time to make a thread about how awesome the phone is! Rarely there is a thread about how the phone rocks and how its amazing. people have a problem, the first thing they wanna do is complain and vent and this forum is where they can lol

I love my gnex!! Best android I've had to date! But I haven't made a thread about it lol

Once our basic biological needs are met with ease, what's left to do except complain? :p

btw... I hate my phone. I hate the ultra high speed LTE network it's on. I hate the high resolution screen that just draws me in to its vortex of color... I hate the fact that it has almost the same processing power as my laptop... what's there to like about this phone?!?! :D

Don't EVEN get me started on how silky smooth the whole ICS experience is.

Think about it....does anyone ever go up to the manager of a store to tell him how good the service was? Do people ever write letters to companies telling them how great their experience was? No. psychologically we expect things to work and be good and when they don't we complain. However, when our expectations are met....well, we don't congratulate people for doing what they are supposed to do! We don't go online posting about how our phones actually make calls like they are supposed to!

Well, most people don't. Knowing that, I do try to make a conscious effort to share the good too in the hopes of offsetting the bad.

I think the real problem is that the phone has undeniable issues. And for some people those issues are dealbreakers. For others, the issues or minor annoyances that the benefits of the phone far outweigh. I belong to the latter group.

Still looking for the undeniable issues or minor annoyances.

I will give you the low volume if you're still stock. That went away when I rooted and flashed AOKP.

The only way you could improve on this phone is if it took pics like a DSLR.

Just got my GNEX yesterday morning (WOOOO!!!).

After reading all the complaints and issues I was a little scared going in and even the verizon guy was trying to get me to buy some LG crap saying how much better it was. Anyway, after a full day of use ive had 0 issues. No banding that I can see, calls and data have been fine so far, battery isnt bad as I thought it would be. This phone is every letter of awesome IMO.

I'm not saying the issues are a big deal, but they're there.

For example, autorotate is slow to respond. This gets ameliorated with the 4.0.4 update (which isn't even officially rolled out), but it's still not as snappy as it was on my previous two Android phones. The battery life is terrible, which again is not a big deal to me (I have an extra battery and a Juice Defender-like Tasker profile), but it's still an issue. The screen is so large as to make one-handed use difficult (ever stand up on a bus?). Again, not a big deal, because I love how beautiful the screen looks.

I can list probably four or five other small annoyances. And, as I said before, not a big deal. I'm not trying to say these are a big deal. In fact, I'm saying quite the opposite.

Well, of course, if you've never experienced any of the issues yourself, that would be your perception and by extension your reality.

However, as someone who went through two of them because of the well-documented LOS issues, I can assure you I didn't need to look hard to find the issues. It was absolutely undeniable, from my perspective that the issues were plain as day.

If yours never had those issues, cool. That experience doesn't negate the experiences of other users anymore than my negative experiences should detract from your positive impressions. Works both ways.

That all said, I can fortunately see it from both sides now, as this third Nexus is working quite well, no issues with the radios thus far at all. No screen issues, speaker volume seems acceptable to me, etc. The only two minor gripes I have are the notification LED simply does not work- ever- unless you use an app like Light Flow, and the time for the screen to flip portrait to landscape is pretty slow.

Beyond that, I'm pleased. Love the polish and feel of ICS, love the screen, speed/performance is excellent.

I'm really liking the phone. I've had it about a week now and now have tweaked the battery life to what I feel is respectable. I also picked up the extended battery, so between that and carrying around the OEM battery as backup, I have no issues with battery life.

I have a buddy that is die hard Apple and he was giving me crap about the perceived battery life of the phone. I just laughed and told him at least I only have to swap out batteries and I can go twice as long without any issues. Can't do that with his iPhone!

Actually, it's funny, complimenting to companies on what they do right is probably really helpful to them I think. Positive reinforcement! We should all try to do it a little here and there... Wouldn't we all rather live in a world of thankers rather than one of complainers?

The whole reason we complain is because our expectations are not being met. As long as we have preconceived expectations, we'll never be satisfied by anything in any arena of life.

We know going into this that there are going to be things we don't like, and that there is a chance of getting a defective device. But there is just something that satisfies ourselves, maybe it's an evolutionary adaptation or a deep rooted animalistic impulse, of complaining... about what is ultimately of our own making.

Well, I'll chime in to say that Nexus has exceeded every expectation I had in it. I DL'd Volume+ for the low volume issue (I use BT almost exclusively anyway) and this thing just screams. The memory is amazing, multi-tasking is phenomenal, I have 9 motion pictures on my Nexus and they look GORGEOUS. With the extended battery and Juice Defender Plus, I can go all day with moderate use.

It felt so good to finally retire my poor Droid on December 15th... and I've had no regrets!

I am soooooo happy that I bought this phone. I have had it for over a month now. I have rooted it and I use Nova Launcher with it. All the small complaints people had almost scared me away. I am so glad I didn't pass this phone up. It is supper fast, I get good battery life and I love ics on it. I could never go back to the older os.

Hyperbole, relax.

I see this as a little rude. You can rant about the complainers but he's not allowed to politely express his opinion?

Many people are having issues with their phone. A great place to ask questions or look for answers is this forum. Most non-rooters who have no problems with their phones have no reason to come here, especially 3 months after release. If you were here in mid December there were a lot of threads about how great this phone is. If the complaints bother you then this forum probably isn't the best place for you.

I love this phone. Have had it for a month now and have zero issues with it. I bought the Razr on release day and couldn't wait to get rid of it. Speaker rattle, constant connectivity issues, just problem after problem. The Nexus is problem free, ICS is great, no issues with 3g/4g/wifi changes. The phone actually feels better in my hand, too. I'm very content with the build quality. All in all, it's the best Android phone to date. I've had 3 Moto phones prior, original droid, droid x and raxr, that run has ended and I'll be hard pressed to want to go back to them after experiencing this phone.
