Pre-ordered!

Handtec cant confirm anything at the minute, other than they are awaiting stock from their suppier, and are expecting it tomorrow, but they dont know how many. They have taking the money from my account and they said to cancel the pre-order would take 5 days to refund, thus meaning it will be at least five days before i could go elsewhere.

Cheers. It's just the jump to Android from iOS that makes me jittery (even though I'm not a massive fan of Apple). It's just moving to something new, but I do like the sound of the customisation Android offers.

It's weird. It feels strange jumping to a new OS, but before my iPhone no phone I had shared the same OS and I was jumping between manufacturers own OS with every phone I got.

I'm getting the phone sim free now! I decided I didn't want to commit myself to a new 24 month contract so have changed my Vodafone monthly account to pay as you go as it'll work out a lot cheaper for me.

No real surprise that the Vodafone store was no help. They told me to phone them even though I was stood in their store and there were no other customers in there. Fortunately the representative on live chat through their website was very helpful. Didn't try to sell me anything, understood why I wanted to change the contract and sorted it all very quickly.

Buying SIM-free, or prepay if you can get a phone unlocked (or easy to unlock) is the way to go as you now have a load of flexibility.

For example, you might not top-up for a bit (but still receive calls) or you can go on a 30 day rolling contract and when a better tariff comes along, just change - and keep your number.

A little bit of effort over a 24-month contract stealing a fortune from you every month, even when you use it less (and charging you when you use it more) but worth it.

What's more, you can change phones as often as you like.

Anyone that takes the time to grab a calculator or load Excel can sit and work out the cost of ownership and will usually see that it's cheaper to pay up-front.

Just a quick note to say that the Sony Center in Tottenham Court Road (near TCR tube) got their delivery of Xperia S's in this morning. I popped in on the way back from the new iPad launch.

Stupid me forgot to ask how much they were selling them for, but they opened one up and it comes with a second screen protector but NOT any NFC tags.

Still, if anyone is looking for one (SIM-free) then maybe other Sony stores got them too.
