Is a screen protector necessary

Hello

My gorgeous new Galaxy Note is due to arrive tomorrow and I feel like a kid at Christmas :) I've been used to the iPhone 4s and have never had need for a screen protector as I am careful with my phone. However, I do worry that regular stylus use will eventually scratch the screen slightly - is this something I need to prepare for? I really would prefer not to cover the careen but will protect if necessary.

Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

Hi Lynnie,

It all comes down to personal preference. The glass itself is the same Gorilla glass as was found on the iPhone so you'll already be familiar with it's protective properties. The key is to look after the phone in the first place. Don't put it in your pocket with keys, coins, lighters etc and try not to have it in the bottom of your handbag ;)
I went protector mad when I got my HTC Desire, I spent about

Oh, and good luck trying to apply a screen protector to a 5.3" screen without getting bubbles or wrinkles trapped :D

Ah, see that right there is the very reason I hate screen protectors with a passion :)

Thanks for the replies guys, it looks as though I will be okay then. I've bought a pouch for it so that it won't be unprotected in my handbag but there is no way my phone and keys will ever be near each other. It was jus the thought of using a stylus to write on the screen that worried me, not something I'm used to but definitely something I can't wait to try ;)

I originally put one on my dell streak, just because of the size. It lasted about 3 months, took it off, ran it naked until I got the note (14 months later). I opt not to put one on the note. I've very careful with it, and it never goes in my pocket anyway. Always in the belt clip, which has the fuzzy material on the inside to protect the screen from rub marks.

I have a small scratch on my screen already. Admittedly it is tiny but I am very disappointed.

OK, fair enough, I think it happened after bending over to zip up by bag properly wearing the one shirt I have that the Note isn't tight in the top pocket of. Events shortly after involved the words tarmac, bounce, steps, gravel.

Those who had a screen protector and say that their screen is impaired by it, well obviously you have been using a sub-standard screen protector.

I use a Martin Fields on mine and it is perfect, no bubble, no warping, no nothing but perfect screen viewing and full protection.

I would argue the larger the screen that you have, the more of a need there is for a protector. Its logical really, you have more surface area to damage.

Invest in a good one, and you cannot go wrong.

Good luck choosing.

Good call!

Just for sharing, Due to daily commute btw workstation and home via rail, thus I opt to apply 3M privacy firm with 2ways feature for less than sgd40 with thumbs up workmanship!

Only setback, need to increase screen brightness and there are tiny bit noticeable fine diagonal lines across screen. Others are just fine! :)
