OK so I owned the iPhone 4 and really can't remember if the battery life was really that good. I would just like to know from the people that used the iPhone 4s or if you know anything about the battery on it. How good is it compared to the GNex? I have heard people talk about it being better, but I am just not so sure. Any ideas would be awesome.

It is actually H+ which is equivalent to 4g.

My GSM never operates on 3g.

OK well either way this is a very fare comparison because these are the two best phones on the market. I just want to see what an average user gets of battery life per day. I understand that android runs differently, but you can still compare hours of battery.

What is an average user? Id say the average user of the nexus has an extra battery since theyre removable.

If you want to search there is a thread i recall that had screenshots with usage info, etc.

iphone 4s will give you much better battery life. Mostly due to the smaller screen I think

Yeah not just the size but the quality too. Screen is the biggest battery hog on this phone by along shot!

I think the screen is the biggest energy hog on pretty much any portable device. Maybe with the radio running in a close second. But maybe the Gnexus is more energy efficient as far as the radio goes I dunno.

I understand the screen is smaller and and all, but I looked at some of the apple forums and they are having some of the same problems with battery life we are. I mean I got the extended battery yesterday and it seems to help. I just don't know that the battery life on the iPhone is that much better.

Screen is a big hog. You can't even watch a full 2 hour 720p movie on it. Period.

You can't have the screen on that long. I have not SEEN one screen shot of ANYONE here with the battery usage showing more than 2 hours yet.

I dont like putting my screen to sleep every 15 seconds. I have to unlock it so many times. With the iPhone 4, I know for a fact you can watch 6 hours of continuos 720p movie.

Wow, that doesn't sound too far off from my Eris. And that's a POS with a 3.2 screen.

To be fair, is that with full brightness? And I highly doubt I would put a 720p movie on it, but that's just me. I've been watching movies at 320 x 240, so I'll be fine.

Medium brightness on both. You can't go low brightness on the GNEX because the color washes out with the OLED screen at low setting.

720p or 480 h.264 doesn't matter on the newer iOS devices because the decoding is all done by IC and GPU. There is no stress on the CPU.

The GNEX, on the other hand, will get very, very warm on the back by the lens.

Had both, my GNex replaced the 4S. The 4S had better battery life stock vs. stock, but not dramatically better. Go the custom ROM route and GNex wins vs stock 4S.

Exactly. It's not like the 4S didn't have its own battery problems.

I've never tried to watch a full 2hr movie on my phone... but I am quite sure I could. Maybe the battery couldn't handle a full 2hr movie streamed online over 4G with the screen brightness at 100%. Maybe.

Next time I have a big "screen on" day I will gladly post a screen shot. But just for reference.... I've run 2:45 screen on time and gotten a MINIMUM of 14.5 hours on battery.

Best Day Ever! - I ran over 29 hours on the stock battery, stock ROM, stock kernel. 29 1/2 hours on battery. about 27hrs on wifi, 2hrs on 3g/4g. 2hrs 45min screen on time. about 5 minutes talk time. No streaming. Brightness at 10% except brief periods in direct sunlight.

Worst Day ever! - Only got 14.5 hours. 2:45 screen on. 2:00 streaming Sirius via 4G. 0:45 of talk time. I really hit on all most of the big drains that day!

OK so everyone can keep jumping on me saying this is not a fare fight, but you kind of need to put both together because they are the two best phones. In no way am I saying g these are the same thing, but if I walk onto a carrier store and want to look at these two phones then I think this is something you need to compare. I know this screen is bigger and all, but if I am not mistaken the iPhone 4s has a smaller battery.

I just remember when I had my iPhone 4 battery seemed to go down rather fast too. It is the pay off for having a smart phone.

The only reason I started this was to see what experiences people were having, and for people to make the right call on a phone. I also saw a few people talking on here saying they were going back to the iPhone for better battery life. I just don't know that it all that much better.

I wouldn't be so quick to say they're the two best phones either. Galaxy Note, Razr Maxx, and Rezound are all phones that are pretty easy to argue objectively as better than the 4S or Galaxy Nexus overall.

So you named off 3 phones that are running a custom gingerbread that is an upgrade behind the Gnex. I mean my old nexus s ran gingerbread faster than all three of those phones. I mean yes those are all good phones, but you can't really tell me they up there with the Gnex and the iPhone. The razor maxx is great if you want battery life, but for speed and over all phone I am not sure anything comes close on android to the Gnex. I am look at all the major tech sites and they say this is the best android phone ever built. Some say the best phone on the market. I will put pure Google up to any phone you want. I know there are custom roms and such, but we are talking right out of the box.

I'm talking out of the box also. They are superior phones all in all. The GN has far less advantages over them than they do over it. All three of those devices have superior hardware to the GN. Hardware updates don't happen so the GN will always be behind there. When those phones get their ICS update the GN will lose the only thing that makes it anything special.

I'm getting around 16 hours on my iPhone 4s battery with heavy usage. I generally got around eight hours or so on my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon with LTE turned off) with similar usage; so the iPhone has about doubled the length of time I need to go between charges.

Edit: This was with the OEM extended battery.

Ok thanks for the info. I had seen some apple forums saying people were getting really bad battery life with the 4s. I have the gsm GNex so I get about 18 hours of battery life out of mine. I don't use mine for 18 hours but I pretty sure I could get that. It just seems that Verizon GNex has been fare less of a phone and it is getting killed in reviews even though the gsm battery life is much better. Again thanks a lot for the info on the iPhone 4s. It appears that it kills the LTE GNex and the gsm one comes just a little behind it.
