Root MikG v3.1 [2/28/2011]

So my wife's phone had been running mikg 2.59 and had Started getting pretty slow and laggey, so I updated her to 3.1 and itt has been running pretty well since then, however now the battery life is ATROCIOUS! This morning, running nothing but the mobile hotspot app, and with no active data transfers, fully charged battery lasted.... 3.6 hours. Once again, mobile hotspot was turned on and my rooted nook color was connected, but not being used, no background data on phone or nook. Pretty much just unplugged the phone in the bedroom and started my day. Is this possibly a kernel problem? anybody got a favorite?

how long did it last before...in that situation ??

go to google play and get the free app.. battery calibration
they say you should run this after each "flash"... re-teach the battery

good deal!

have you updated your prl and profile, in that order? They are in Menu/Settings/System updates?

Other than that, what do you have syncing in the background?

I just checked mine and in accounts and sync I had Google, Weather and News syncing. Usually I just have Google syncing.

Do you have wifi turned on when you aren't in a wifi covered area? not good, great when you are covered though.

bluetooth on? 4g? i hear gps doesn't use any juice unless an app is using it.

You know I think the kernel finally settled down. If I'm on Wifi only the phone does great, last a long time. Now, if I turn on 3G/Bluetooth/GPS it starts to burn the battery pretty quickly.

I don't know if that's an issue with having old radios (how do I update those, should I?) or what, but the battery life without those on is back to what it was like before rooting, if not better.

I probably shouldn't complain too much, my battery is now about 1 1/2 years old.

Food for thought:

I can't say that updating the batteries helped me one way or another. I still don't have very good signal the same places it was weak before.

That being said, flashing them is not really difficult, but you should have your battery well charged and the back cover on securely. You do NOT want to pull the battery or have it fall out while you are doing this or you will brick your phone for real. I have done them twice but I dread doing it.

There are links to the latest battery combos in here. bet you Granite hops in with it on the tip of his fingers soon if you want them. I could find them too if you want them. Some people really feel like they helped them.

I have an extended battery and also took advantage of the deal with the charger and 2 batterys from amazon. the charger puts a fuller charge on the batteries than the phone does. i understand the phone only charges to 90% when it says fully charged, then you see it drop 10% almost immediately. Kinda discouraging. One way to circumvent that is to use battery calibration apps or clear battery stats in recovery. it tells the phone 90% is 100% so it doesn't have the quick drop off. the battery still gets used at whatever rate it will though.

It looks like there is a new sbc kernel for sense roms. I am going to let that prove itself a bit before I try it. What sbc kernels do is allow the phone to charge the battery to 100%

There already are a number of sbc kernels for aosp roms. aosp roms are very lean compared to sense roms and the combination of more charge and less overhead makes for some great battery life.

Aosp roms take some tweaking though, sometimes, to get gps to work right, to get the widgets and a launcher that you like. So, it takes more work but is much more customizable as well.

You never did say what you had syncing. that is a trade off, more syncing, less battery life.

You can also turn off mobile networks and background data syncing and get better life, but I forget if you can get texts automatically or not. You have to decide to check for emails though. Major trade off, but if you aren't interested in getting emails that will work. with mobile networks off you can't browse internet either, unless you are on wifi.

If you have the hotspot app on and users connected I'm not really suprised it went down so fast. Doesnt matter if the kindle is actively using the connection or not, just having the app going will kill your battery

Agreed, mine always has been a big battery drain regardless of client side usage. I think 3+hrs of hotspot on without being on a charger is actually pretty good

Thanks for all the information. I have background data and sync on, and I sync two emails addresses, facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense (what's the difference?), Google, and Weather. I used to have all that syncing before and my phone with stock rom would last for more than a day, now it last about 3/4th's of a day if I'm ever switching on Bluetooth or 3G. (granted i just saw that I had a few other things syncing that I just stopped so we'll see what happens)

But honestly, my phone finally, FINALLY, is not rebooting and runs real smooth. I get into my car, switch on Bluetooth, pull up navigation, and within about 5 seconds I have my navigation going to my car speakers. I love how smooth it finally is working again, and really don't want to mess with it.

I figure if I want to buckle down and buy a new battery from Amazon or something I'll do that, I've had so many problems flashing different roms that I just don't want to mess with it anymore, and it's so time consuming to reflash and then redownload everything, putting in all my folders again, putting in all my preferences, etc.

I'll just tolerate the poor battery performance which may also just be based on the fact that my battery is not 1 1/1 years old.

Guys, like an idiot I uninstalled the Calendar through Miktweeks when I downloaded the Go Launcher Calendar widget, and now I can't click on my Calendar widget and see my weekly/monthly calendar. Serious pain in the ass.

I tried to go back to MikTweaks and click on the calendar check, presumably to reinstall it, but all it says is "removing calendar . . . ." It says the same thing regardless of whether the box is checked or not, and when I go back to my home screen and try to go back to the Calendar, it shows the Calendar box still unchecked.

Should I do a nandroid and reflash the v3.11?

You wouldnt happen to have a nandroid from before you starting messing with the tweaks do you?

can you just download google calendar? or is it the htc widget you are missing?

Well, both widgets are there. For example, I have both the regular Calendar Widget that comes with Mik and the GoLauncher Calendar widget side-by-side right now. Both show different events (GoLauncher seems to be syncing with my work calendar, the regular Calendar widget doesn't seem to be syncing up with it) but I'm unable to click on either of them. All I can do is move them around the screen or delete them, I'm not able to click on them and then see more calendar information like what should happen.

Another way of putting it is if I was not at my computer (i.e. just with my phone) I'd have no idea what is going on tomorrow.

I'm only assuming it's related to me messing with the Tweaks.

I'm downloading MikG 3.11 and am going to attempt to modify it for you so that it doesn't wipe data. That way you can wipe Dalvik cache & cache and just flash the ROM over itself without losing any data

Edit: I'm having issues getting it to compress back into the ROM. Just go into the Updaterscript and remove the parts about mounting and formatting SYSTEM, DATA, ect at the beginning
