This is my first Android device though I've been a linux user for years. I'm also a developer primarily using web languages and Python.

That said I'm trying to root this phone and running into blocks without enough feedback to know how to proceed. I've tried various scripts designed to root other Samsung Android phones without success. Same with the SuperOneClick.

Are there any docs I can reference for how to modify an existing script or someone that has started working on one for this phone?

Looking forward to clearing out some bloatware, and tinkering with the phone in general though non-root has such limitations...

Thank you

I too am very interested in rooting this phone! Has anyone out there successfully rooted? This seems to be one of the only forums talking about the Rugby Smart so far.

Yes, I have successfully rooted my Rugby Smart. Just look on the Samsung Rugby Smart - All Things Root. If you follow those instructions word for word, you should successfully root your Rugby Smart.

Also, just backup all your contacts, apps, app data, pictures, and files to multiple places. I backed mine up to a cloud, my PC, and a thumb drive.

Ya know, there is a non-destructive root method now... I'll post it here in a few hours.

Those of us in the development community are hard at work on this. I'm curdently working with the CM9 source from the Galaxy W kernel ;). I've said enough...

How soon is it going to be before it is finished? Because I seriously need CM9, because I want ICS for a few apps that only run on ICS.
