Petition to Asus to repair or replace TF201 with WiFi/GPS issues

Because a reputable site stated this and Asus. No conjecture here and no rudeness either. And no, it does not have a clean line of site due to the substrate layer, panel and circuit board. These devices do not crank enough mW to compensate and are designed to leverage the less blocked back panel.

where did Asus confirm the back plate? what repuitable site claimed the back plate. everyone here has claimed it because apple added a plastic window on the back of their ipads - and if apple does it then it must be right.

The back plate is being cited as the issue because of asus anouncing the prime with a full hd screen with a different backplate, with a non metal section. At this point they themselves mentioned that this improved wifi and gps over the prime we all have at the moment.

Not as you so put it, apple has done it so it must be right...

At CES, Asus touted the new 1080p Prime as having better GPS and wifi, due to the redesigned panel and Anandtech did a thorough analysis.

Please search the topic. Conjecture free and so is my explanation about why the back panel is where the best signal is afforded.

BTW, I do have an undergrad in computer electronics, so do at least have an understanding of the subject. Same for my previous job in contract manufacturing of consumer and industrial electronics.

and tests of the new model have shown no improvement in the wifi or gps.

The announcement of the new shell design on the TF700t was not the reason the shell was cited as being the issue. Asus was quoted and stated that the all metallic design was the issue. This was prior to even announcing the TF700t.

Asus themselves claim that the TF700t shell design improves the GPS and Wifi. If that is not the case then once again Asus is misleading the consumer as they did when they shot down the rumors of Wifi /GPS issues that surfaced prior to the Prime releasing.

i read that the new back of the tf700t and read in a test that wifi and gps were not improved.

Just buy a Toshiba Thrive, mine works perfectly and it has full size hdmi, USB and sd card slots. No troubles at all with wifi or gps. Though having the tablet hooked up by wifi hot spot to phone really helps with maps since I have yet to buy a card and install map app.

I like my Thrive a lot, but will get the 1080p Prime when released this summer. The Transformer has great wifi, so not seeing why the non all alluminum back plate models will not be good as well. Weak wifi on a wifi tablet seems silly. Key reason I returned the well built A500 was weak a55 wifi.

You return it to Best Buy. You don't listen to the peon at the counter who says its past 14 days. Ask for a manager and when they get there you point out that Asus admitted a flaw. I had the site already pulled up on my iPhone to show. Got a full refund on 3 primes.
I did just that and my Best Buy would not give me a refund. They wanted to send it back to Asus for repair which I knew what would happen from there. I'd be without a tablet for quite awhile just to be told there is no fix.

Not that it matter's any longer to me. My ex-Prime is at the Asus site in Cal. and I'm now waiting on a full refund. Was told that my purchase date fell within whatever dates Asus set that entitled one to a full refund.

What I don't get is that this petition has not reach 5000 signatures yet.............guess some peeps don't mind overlooking their Primes faults no matter what they might be !

Mine: No Gps.......Weak wifi (on a wifi only tablet) and light bleed !

So, I contacted an Asus customer service rep and told him my gps doesn't work and he told me it wasn't a "professional" gps and needed a wifi signal to work. Then I told him I was using my phones hotspot as my wifi router. Then he told me if I wasn't satisfied to take it back where I bought it for a refund. Then I told him Best Buy had a 14 day return policy on tablets and it was past 14 days (yes, I talked to a manager). He then told me to send him my shipping address so he could send me a postage paid shipping label to send it back for a full refund if I included the original receipt. That was on 3-13. I'm still waiting for the shipping label. Tonight I sent him an email saying I haven't got the shipping label yet and made sure he had my serial number. When I get a response I'll post it. I also told him I really like my Prime except for that.

Or maybe a lot of us don't have those problems ;)

I'm sure you don't have that GPS problem "IF" you bought your Prime "After" Asus made the grand announcement that " The Prime is not a fully capable GPS device" and pulled GPS from the spec sheet !

If you bought your Prime before "The" annoucement and while GPS was listed as a feature, I'm sorry but you do have at least "That" problem, no matter had badly you want to overlook it !

Also, Asus did manage to release some semi-flawless Primes into the wild............consider yourself one of the lucky ones !

Maybe most people got one of the semi-flawless Primes and you're in the minority. ;)

Considering their projected aim of units to ship in 2011 and actual units shipped up until today (based on availability and being hard to find) I'd say Asus has fallen way short of their goal, unless you have tangible proof, I still say 2500+ owners are 2500+ too many !

Asus saying it , don't cut the mustard..............at one time they advertised a tablet with GPS..............we all know what happened next !

I just got an email for a return mailing address from the ASUS warranty center and a postage paid return shipping label from FED EX. They said not to send any accessories back including the original packaging. I guess that means the tablet all by itself. Do any of you have a clue as to what they may do to my Prime to make the gps work? Maybe a new back?

The good news is ASUS is fixing the issue with a plastic strip on the back (per Best Buy and ASUS rep, shipping sometime next month).

Bad news would be any current owners that are having radio issues.

If that's the case, once my refund check arrives, which has already been sent, I'll wait until the "New" and "Improved" Prime hits the shelves , possibly buy and try and make sure that if it's no better than the current model, to return within the return window !

Wonder if they'll add GPS back to the spec sheet?...........Doubt it, although I'm sure the plastic strip would improve reception along with pogo pin replacement !
