Help Software updated... Connection failed!

I'm in the UK and on Android version 2.3.3.

Firstly, is this the latest software?

Secondly, is it normal for the phone to report connection failed if it's on the latest version? If not, what causes this? I have WiFi on and my phone is in airplane mode (in a place where there is no signal so I do that to save battery).

As far as I know, If you have airplane mode on, wifi does not work either. If you want data off, just long press on the power button to get option to off data. If want to off line, go to the settings and see if can off from there.

Ice cream sandwich is the latest now and is slowly being pushed out. Latest gingerbread is2.3.6

Thanks. I've read T-Mobile in the UK has problems with OTA updates...

Also, I have WiFi enabled on Airplane Mode.

I tried Kies Air but can't see an update option...

You misunderstood. Regardless if you have wifi, data, or celular line on, with airplane mode, these should be disabled. If you only want wifi only, you have to go to the settings on the wireless & network and disable individually. If you can, get an app that can toggle this for you so it is easier.

Cannot update firmware via Kies Air. OTA updates available for some carriers only. Heard Vodaphone UK does. OTA can be found in settings/about phone/update.

Normal firware updates are of 2 ways. Officially through Kies. Unofficial is flashing through ODIN.

I always thought airplane mode will disable the wifi as well.

Oh well.... if you say so. Better remember to make sure wifi is off and not just airplane mode on if ever get on the plane :thinking:

Airplane Mode turns off ALL CONNECTIVITY. However, you can still enable Bluetooth/WiFi if you want to.
