Hey guys,

I updated my SGS2 to DXLP7 4.0.3 ICS. Upon updating I've realized the stock email client and its widget are rubbish. The widget will not update my new emails and I'm unable to receive any push emails to my hotmail. Any help guys?

Also I can't find the option to register "premium accounts" like I did in 2.3.6.

Hope someone can help

Cheers

umm how did you do that? Cant find to options on ics to change such settings. Can you explain?
Thanks

Push:
System settings > Accounts and sync > select your email account > Settings > again select the email account > Sync schedule

Retrieval Size:
System settings > Accounts and sync > select your email account > Settings > again select the email account > Size to retrieve emails

Push:
System settings > Accounts and sync > select your email account > Settings > again select the email account > Sync schedule

Retrieval Size:
System settings > Accounts and sync > select your email account > Settings > again select the email account > Size to retrieve emails

I'm afraid for the version of ICS i'm using there aren't any settings to adjust the things you mentioned =/

Push:
System settings > Accounts and sync > select your email account > Settings > again select the email account > Sync schedule

Retrieval Size:
System settings > Accounts and sync > select your email account > Settings > again select the email account > Size to retrieve emails

Thanks for the info. These setting aren't available on my phone (ics 4.0.3) but it did give me an idea..cheers. Deteted current settings, started again but un-ticked the push option, It then gave me the option to check mail every 5min, 10mins etc. Now working fine it just checks every 10 minutes for emails. :)

i solved it guys.

first I didn't tick the push option upon registering at first. Then I'll choose the settings to be push during peak and manual during off-peak. What I found out was that if a day was selected the background becomes black and the words red instead of the background white and the letter black. It seems to be the other way around for me. Hope this helps. Once I figured that out, I changed the retrieval size to 100kb as suggested above. And now it works fine :)

Thank god for that, whats the use of a smartphone that can't even receive push email.

well I must be doing something wrong. I deleted account and started again. unticked the push option, it did its download of settings then only the option on 5, 10 etc mins to check for emails. Do I have to put the settings in the manual way ie entering the incoming server name etc? sorry to be dumb...

noo not manual. even if you untick the push option, you'll be presented with the option to push besides the 5min , 10min or 15 min interval :)

I updated to the ICS on Monday. I have the SGS2.
i realised that my email application downloaded 170Mb in just 2 days. Only this morning it downloaded 70Mb. I deactivated automatic sync on my gmail account, and changed my settings on my hotmail and work email in the stock email application to sync every 10 minutes. Still it is using 2-2.5Mb an hour which in total is more than a GB in a month.
So i deleted my hotmail and work email accounts from the stock app.
I don't know how to stop it from downloading so much data withouth actually receiving any emails other than just text mails.

I downloaded the Hotmail application that allows you to put a limit on the downloaded email size and activate the push option. I have been checking on the consumption of data and it only uses some Kb every hour.

I will add my work email once again to the stock app and check it manually.

Samsung has really messed up this thing. They have added Picasa, Google photos, Google albums, messenger, Google+ to the Gmail account auto sync options. If you don't realise that these things are donwloading a hell of a lot of data, then your montlhy data plan is wasted in a couple of days.

Sent an email to samsung support, not really expecting any good reply from them. Will keep in touch to see if there is a solution to this problem.

hi there,

if you untick the push option when you add an account to your stock email, you will be able to select the size of your retrievals (ie 100kb for me) then decide to download the email in full should you want.

Hope this helps and yeah it is definitely a bitch for samsung to integrate all those things.. unnecessary in my opinion. all i want is an efficient and fast stock email client

I tried everything as my email could send and everything was sinked (calendar/contacts/etc...) but I could not view any emails. All I did was go into the settings as set the Text display size to "tiny" as there was nothing selected and everything appeared. Looks like since the upgrade, they forgot to default a text view size, so once you select it... everything appears/.
