Swype now officially available on Android as a Beta

Just downloaded it to my nexus (not rooted nexus).
1. Just open the mail.
2. see web browser launch.
3. uninstall leaked swype
4. installed the swype download
5. it'll prompt you for your email and password
6. the application will download your swype.
7. enable swype.

takes up 4.55 mb (3.09 application, 1.46 data). That's 1/2 of the original!

It's slightly different from the beta one was leaked a while back. it's slight more responsive. especially when you hold down on a button to get to the other letter/number/character

changes noticed:
1. can switch between english and spanish keyboard by holding down on Q
2. layout of keyboard is slightly different, but more useful
3. to get to the editing keyboard, you have to swype from "swype editing" to the "sym"
4. response to select the alternative button is faster
5. double touching Up arrow, will auto-cap lock keyboard
6. auto correction menu is blue/white and the (x) button is blue

one biggest thing it's missing is VOICE BUTTON!!! GRAHH. overall the official beta is slightly better than the leak one in appearance.

...You need to have a phone with a hard keyboard (ie hard qwerty) in order for swype to work. Do you even understand what swype is?

i dont believe you understand what swype is. it is for touch phones without a hard keyboard. i just installed it on my n1 after removing the leaked version. this one is much better with a faster delete key. Do you even own an N1

i contacted one of the Swype engineers about my issue and he said that others were having problems downloading as well. in my case, however, it turns out that my issue was using the browser in the Desire ROM to access the download. i installed Dolphin Browser and Swype installed without issue. now, i did see the message about "limiting features", but so far i can't tell what's been limited. i'm pleased with the reduced footprint and speed vs. the previous beta. hoping they add the voice button soon!

EDIT: may have found a limited feature (or a bug) with my installation: when using the search widget or market search, i have to type vs. Swype. i reinstalled the previous leaked version and swyping in a search box is allowed. would appreciate someone else testing this feature. thanks!

Wow having noticed this one, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for in a keyboard, a fast way to shift between English and Spanish.
