Help Can't delete favorites

I have a droid razr and I am trying to edit my favorites. I deleted some of the contacts in my favorites by holding down the contact and selecting delete contact. But there are some contacts that wont delete. I select delete contact but nothing happens. I have also deleted contacts from favorites by clicking on the green star by their name, but this only works for certain contacts. What am I missing here. I guess I have to delete them from the whole phone and then add them in again one by one.

Also in trying to resolve this problem I deleted the little widget thing at the top of the home screen. It had six squares and you could put pics of your contacts in the squares. How can I get that back, I put it in the trash can thinking it was a recycle bin and now its gone.
