Help No(w) update for sim-free UK S2

There are plenty of posts about this on this forum, basically the UK official Kies release for unlocked phones begins week commencing 19th March.
The software is released to carriers also to add and tweak their own branding etc then release later, but it seems Three have already released their offering.
Cmon Samsung, let's have the unlocked release!

If you look at the post date you'll notice it's after the 19th March.

There are no other forum posts about SIM-Free phones. only network regulated phones

If you look at the current date you'll notice it's still only midway through that week.

Don't worry there'll be a slew of posts about it when the unbranded firmware comes out.

I know that ICS has been released to 3 and other carriers are updating as is the UK unlocked but I don't really understand how this can be!

OK, the unlocked version has to be tested against Vodaphone, O2 and all the rest but I would have thought that the carriers would take the released XEU version and test that to create/release their own version.

I am disappointed that I have an unlocked phone but still no ICS but I do put a large part of the blame against Samsung. There was leaked info about a 1st March release (They could have officially denied it!) and then last week a vague announcement that it would be week commencing 19th March - I can't believe that last week they didn't have a good idea of the release schedule. I would have no problem with them announcing a release schedule and adding that it would be +/- 2 days (or something like that).

In the PC world we live in nowadays a lot is spoken of 'managing expectations', Samsung are absolutely not doing that and in my opinion seem to almost encourage misinformation - but they do make good phones!

Sorry if this has been asked, but there seems to be a lot of confusion but very few answers.

I have an unbranded, unlocked SGS2, bought in the UK and running the latest firmware (prior to ICS).

I am told that ICS is now available to download, but Kies says there is nothing, as does my phone.

However, every news tech site on the web says I should be able to download. What's happening?

Samsung are a bunch of [deleted] who find it impossible to tell the truth. Hopefully like me all on this thread will not buy an S3 and samsung may realize that when they string customers along like this its bad for business. Perhaps they will up their game with the s4. End of rant! ( I have a transformer 101 and asus were spot on with ics, I will update to a tf 300 in June as a satisfied customer)

I've posted 2 tweets to samsung mobile and samsung uk last week and they can't even be bothered to post back.
Not happy with the fact they said w/c 19th and no ICS but more unhappy with their lack of communication.
I can't think they would not release it for ICS for fun so there must be a reason. I just wished they would let us know why

I suspect the battery drain issues that early adopters are getting has held up the release - it's virtually impossible to schedule fixing these things. Some communication would be nice, I'm checking You Mobile several times a day when a tweet could save me the bother even if it was bad news.

They apparently said it would be on the week of the 19th, but the release from Three may have technically fulfilled this.

To save checking the website (which is a slow loader) add SamKiesUpdates to your twitter account, makes it easier and quicker and it can annoy also when you see all the other areas getting it before us lol.

A bit silly idea ...

What if everyone of us having Twitter, and i mean everyone, would start posting the same message to Samsung UK twitter account?

If they will get spammed with lets say 100 messages a day/first day, they will have to notice! Maybe even respond?!

My English isnt perfect but i can provide message draft, Then someone could polish it. And then just copy-paste to Twitter :D maybe something like that:

"Dear Samsung. Please explain to your faithful customers who paid to get SGSII Unlocked:Why Three and O2 have ICS on Kies and we still dont?"

What do you think?

Well i think three and o2 versions will have bugs that have been overlooked because they gave in to customers demanding early release, while the uk unbranded will have most bugs ironed out, i would rather have a working ics with minimal bugs

What fixes? samsung released ICS on 19th of Marcgh for SGS2...so i assume they made all necessary testing.

They released ready full product for UK on 19th of March.

Whos testing ICS for unlocked? Vodafone? ;)

Look for I9100 posts and xeu if that is what your phone's ccs says

What's CCS? Do you mean CSC? Mine is now I9100XALPQ, using an ICS build from a few weeks ago. XEU is my sales code, which I understand is also called the product code.

This has just come up on that twitter account:
XEU = Europe I9000XXJW4/I9000OXAJW4 (Android 2.3.6)

I presume that's for the SGS1, and isn't ICS anyway?

I believe XEU = Europe I9000XXJW4/I9000OXAJW4 (Android 2.3.6) is a 'value pack' for the original Galaxy, I think it makes Gingerbread look like ICS

Correct SandLake!

The original Galaxy S, (i9000), not the SGSII, is getting the Value Pack, as described here:-

Samsung Galaxy S Value Pack starts rolling out in Korea - GSMArena.com news

What's CCS?

For an explanation of CSC codes, see here:-
