Hi,

As I tried to explain in the title :), When I go to netwok devices on my laptop (through windows 7) I see other computers and devices on my home network ( two other desktop computers, modem etc. but I can't see Galaxy S2 even though it's connected to the network.

For example I leave it on a desk in the kitchen to charge (it's connected to my home wifi) and I go to my laptop (in my bedroom) and then I download some apps on my laptop and I want to transfer them to the Galaxy S2 but i can't access it because I can't see it under network

I can access it with KIES but for that I have to get up, walk to the mobile, turn on kies, which is too hard :)

Will Samba or some other SMB client do the trick? ( I need something that runs in the background and as soon the Galaxy is connected to my home wifi it's SD card is shared on the network.

Thanks

Late8 is correct; Android doesn't support sharing local volumes natively. You'll need a client that supports SMB, such as ES File Manager or (iirc) Astro.

However, the easiest way to accomplish your example is to log into the Market on your browser and "install" the apps from there; they'll go straight to the chosen device. No additional apps or intervention required.

Is this still current? Android 4.x also will not share local volumes natively, so what a Windows person might call sharing is off by default?
I want to connect an Android device to a public hotel network safely. I have a microUSB to LAN connector and will connect that to my home network for testing thru an Ethernet cable. I am hopeful I can then use the network, but be virtually invisible or at least protect my files. (No VPN software or any apps designed to allow wifi file sharing are present).

I realize this can be done on a W7 PC, perhaps more easily, but I'd like to eliminate that weight in traveling. Also, using VPN at the hotel is not an option.

Comments SO welcome you wouldn't believe. :) Thank you.
