Help Application cannot be installed in the default install location

I have a Galaxy SII which I bought in Vietnam. Upon purchase they installed some apps on my phone, but there are still 8Gs worth of memory free. I've successfully installed several apps including Cracked.lite, and English to Vietnamese dictionary and more. But, when I try to download other apps: The Chive, Facebook and more I get the error message "application cannot be installed in the default location." I've checked around and I haven't found any posts that clarify the solution for this. I am an extreme novice with this.

Thanks for your help

When I changed the default install location to the SD card, the same error occurred for me, but setting it back to auto fixed the issue. It looks like they've changed the default install location.

To resolve the issue, download android-sdk_r17-windows.zip (version located list here) and extract it to the C: drive. Then follow the these instructions and install the USB drivers.

Now open cmd in Windows and type each command below, pressing the enter button after each one:

cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
adb devices
abd shell pm set-install location 0
exit

Go back to the Play Store on your phone and update/install the apps you couldn't before. Once done, repeat the above but replace the 0 with 2.

Hope this helps.

That sounds great, but does anyone know how I solve the problem on a Mac? Tried downloading three apps tonight and I'm getting the 'Error - Application cannot be installed in the default installation location' message for each one.

Thanks for any help.

If you have an SD card installed, and your device is using the SD card as the default installation location, and the app is not able to be installed on or moved to the SD card you would get this error when you try to update the app.

(I got this error on my phone when I tried to update the Google apps that came pre-installed/built-in, e.g. Google maps, Gmail etc).

I tried changing the default installation location in Settings, but that didn't help.

When I turned off my phone, removed the SD card (so there WAS no other location) and tried installing the updates with no SD card installed, the updates all installed fine.

After the apps were updated I turned off my phone again & put the SD card back in. All good!
