My buddy just acquired a Captivate, box and all, for $50. (AT&T)
He says Wal-Mart can set him up with T-Mobile.
I don't know anything about what locking and unlocking is except you can use your phone on different carriers, I think.
Is that what Wal-Mart does, unlock it?
How would I know if it was already unlocked?
Can I put the SIM card from my phone (S2, T-mobile) in it and see if it works?
Sorry for the noobe questions.
Thanks for any answers, also.
Hi. Well, it's a T-mobile phone now. Question part 2: How does this affect updating it to Gingerbread or even just Froyo?
I'm sorry if I'm asking the same question as before (A different question I asked the other day. I can't find it now. It was something like "Is Eclair too Old?". Something with "Eclair" in the title), but now it is a T-mobile phone, so the question changed a little.
Do I (or somebody a little more knowledgeable) still just use Kies Air? Does it make a difference that it's a different carrier than what it was designed (I guess you wouldn't use an AT&T OTA anymore?).
Thank you
(I'm going to stall my friend on the update until somebody here advises me. Because I got to admit, I'm real clueless right now).
Edit: I'm building a little confidence about this upgrade thing, after reading still more on the subject. (It's taken me forever to find out which I even install Kies on, the PC or the phone. I think I install and launch the Kies that's on the phone, and it will tell me how to get Kies onto the computer).
If that's totally wrong, please tell me, somebody.
I told you I'm a total idiot.
But, and this might be important, might not, should I be reading how to update the AT&T Captivate, or the T-Mobile Galaxy S (the Fascinate, I think. It's too late to start reading about another phone)?
Since you're supposed to remove the SIM card to update (or at least recommend it?), does that mean it doesn't matter which it is, as long as it's the Samsung way, meaning Kies??
Somebody please set me straight on this.
Thank-you
I'll try not to add any more to this post.
