Keep us posted what you decide. I'm in the same boat as you. I love so much about this device, but I'm growing more and more impatient with my reception issues. I actually tried to get VZW to swap my GNex for a Maxx shortly after it was released, butit was well past my return window. Since this is my second GNex with the identical problems, it's either poor coverage near my office or bad hardware/software. Google/Samsung/VZW needs to step up!
I've even considered trying to root/rom my phone, which I've never done.. I've been seeing a lot of people expressing frustration over this issue. Just a couple of weeks ago I was told very few people (here) were having reception issues. That just doesn't seem accurate.
Problem is, now I want to see if there will be a Maxx like device with an HD screen around the corner.
Rooting and romming will take care of the bug problem (depending on the rom of course), but it will most likely do nothing for your signal strength.
A caveat to that is that when rooted you can swap radios around, trying different versions to see which works best for you. There are even hybrid radios out there, where they combine one version of the 4G radio with a different version of the 3G radio.
I came from the Thunderbolt to the Nexus, and I have to admit that I had better reception on the Thunderbolt without a doubt. Now my reception on the Nexus is adequate for my needs, since I have wifi at work and wifi at home. But if I didn't have the wifi, I'd probably be disappointed because all I have at home is a weak 3G signal, whereas with the Tbolt I had a solid 4G signal. Now that is in my house, mind you. I can go outside and walk about a block away and I have 4G again. It's odd.
I can't say anything for the Rezound because I've never owned one, but I can say the Thunderbolt had much better reception than the Nexus.
I don't know if that helps, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
