To keep this short and sweet...

Wife and I currently have captivates- we like the phones but the cameras suck
We have a 9 month old and a 2 year old and my wife is always snapping pictures
Her #1 complaint with captivate is the camera is horrible for taking pictures of moving kids
Her birthday is this month and her line is eligible for a discounted upgrade
Thinking about upgrading her to the Skyrocket primarily for a better camera

Before I pull the trigger; is the Skyrocket camera good? I'm wondering if I should hold out a bit longer to see what phones come out later this year.

Info/advice is appreciated. :)

I have never found a cell phone that has a camera capable of taking pictures of my 3 year old and 5month old with out them being blurry. The shutter speeds are just too slow. I have the skyrocket and think the camera is pretty crappy. The white balance is horrible. When taking pictures of light objects against a white wall I can see like a red center with yellow around the edges, when you use the flash, it doesnt balance it well and you end up with a really dark background. I hope they fix these issues in ICS.

Thanks for the quick response!

That's our exact problem... pictures are always blurry. I was hoping it was due to the lack of flash on the captivate (and subsequent shutter speed). Don't want to upgrade and have the same issue...

I thought the camera was pretty good better then my droid charge for sure and as good if not better then my epic touch

Can you elaborate? My only experience is with the Captivate (which im sure is bottom of the barrel in terms of cameras). I'm not sure what the camera in the Droid Charge or the Epic Touch is like.

Basically, i'm trying to gauge if this upgrade for the camera is worth it from the Captivate to the Skyrocket (or is there another AT&T phone i should look at upgrading to?)...

My wife uses this phone for 3 things-
1 = Pictures
2 = Texts
3 = Phone calls

... so the camera portion is key. But I have no reason to upgrade if the current options aren't worth it.... other than the camera our phones are perfect for our use.

*Note that we have no issues taking pictures of perfectly still objects. It's the constantly moving kid pictures that are a pain- would be nice to have a camera capable of taking a decent "action" shot on the fly.

You might want to try one out in the store, the skyrocket has several camera settings including action shots and sports scene mode as well as adjustable exposure, ISO speed, resolution and white balance. The edit options in the gallery include saturation, contrast, brightness, and gray scale.

It's actually a pretty good camera for a cell phone, plus 1080p video at 30 fps. Here's a link to a review that includes a section about the camera.

I just got this phone and I think the camera is great. Really high quality pics so far.

Do not use the stock camera application. Download the Camera ICS+ app. It is really much easier to use and provides excellent response and great photos.

What one has failed to mention is that Skyrocket has one of the best front-facing cameras. At 2.0 mpx, it is the likely one of the best out there. It works great with Skype.

If the camera is what is important to you, I'd recommend waiting until May to see if you like the HTC One X. Its camera is supposed to be the fastest on the market.
