Thinking of ditching nexus for hd2...thoughts?

the nexus1 is my first nice phone with a full service company. but i got it because i do love big screens. the hd2 has a bigger screen but i am worried about the widows mobile thing. what does android and my nexus have over the hd2 and windows? and of course the other way..windows/hd2 over android/nexus.

please help me make my decission.

I think I am done looking for phones anymore... the N1 fulfills all of my needs:

1. Data only plan
2. Free calls (gizmo/gv) through data
3. Tethering
4. Bluetooth keyboard support (blueinput driver)
5. More open system with emulators available (nesoid)
6. FREE gps application
7. Removable battery
8. Scratch free body
9. Voice dictation
10. Voice recorder

Once I find a company as good as Google is at coming out with new free things for its customers I tend to stick with them.

i recommend you read the LEO/HD2 forums at Xda. there's a wealth of feedback that will help you make your decision. in my humble opinion, you can't go wrong with either device as long as it meets your needs.

You have to look at it as if you were buying a MAC or a PC.....its important that you pick the right one for YOU. I am new to the Nexus one and I love it (after rooting and custom ROM)

One thing to consider is that the HD2 is likely stuck at WinMo 6.5. MS has pretty much said it wont be updated to Phone 7. The N1 is Google's first branded phone. We can probably expect better long term support for it.

God no, WinMo 6.5 is a terrible, terrible ***********. Look into Windows Mobile again when Phone 7 series comes out, not before.

Poor HD2. Just about to come out for T-Mobile here in the USA, but it's already after MS announced Windows Phone Series 7, which actually looks pretty awesome.

And, even though the HD2 meets all the performance specs, it will most likely not be upgradable.

So upon purchasing it, you're immediately stuck with a dead OS, as MS is moving in an entirely different direction.

Look ahead a year. The HD2 will still be stuck on some variant of WM6.5, while the N1 could be at 3.0...

I don't think it's worth it. At best it's a lateral trade. At worst, you're losing out on a lot of new features.

Keep in mind that you can dual boot the HD2 with android.

I think that is something worth considering for the OP. If you want to root it and run a custom rom then take the HD2. If you want to stay with WinMo 6.5 then I'd look elsewhere. My friend has the HD2 and he loves the specs on the phone but hates the OS. There are very little apps for the WinMo OS and most developers are going after Apple and Android devices these days. Take a look at Revision 3 App Judgment - they only look at Android and Apple stuff. I believe Series 7 will be a big leap but it'll take a couple of years before it beds in and gets the same attention from developers.

LOL, please tell me you're joking?? Microsoft have not said whether a Windows 7 upgrade will be available/possible for the HD2, so I say "screw them" for wanting me to spend

Last I heard, though, it's not fully functional yet. Does it even work well with custom ROMs? Because, considering that the HD2's hardware is vastly different from all other current Android phones, I'd imagine not. I really, really would not get a HD2 hinging onto dual-booting Android.

coming from an hd2 to n1, and all I can say is there's no comparison. Hd2 had all the glitches, very shabby battery life and I DO have big hands, but still single handed operation is a no no. Browser speed aint that good either. The phone has flash support in the web browser, but it rarely works without crashing.
I mean , I ditched my hero for the hd2 and I regretted that after the first week of hd2 use. Only reason I hung was of win 7, which now thanks to MS, is also out of question.

buying the hd2 is like buying a paperweight . it has no future.... no upgrades... no nothing except maybe roms but there always all half ass i used to flash all the time on my tp2 all the roms are laggy and such and winmo without 7 in its own couldnt possibly be any more trash.

be ready for LAG.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I was also looking forward to putting Android on the HD2 but if I can't make a phone call while on the dual boot android system then it might be a deal breaker for me.

The applications I care about are: Sling Box and Slacker.

I have had the HD2 and N1 at the same time, the N1 blows the HD2 out of the water in my opinion. The SMS bug on the HD2 is real problem. some days it would send no worries and then it would not send at all. I installed all the updates to fix it and it was still there. I did love the big screen on HD2 but really that's about it. Even my old Hero worked better than the HD2, The Battery life for HD2 is not great either. The N1 is the best phone I have had in a long time. I tried the Samsung HD and well that was a complete waist of time and money. For me the N1 fits all I need does it all well

Its going to come down to what your needs are:

I use excel and pdf a lot so win mobile is a good fit for me. I also like to use sling box and slacker, both on win mobile.

I also want to use android....and guess what....dual boot mode.

I was in the same field as you. I used to own a Tilt from ATT and used it on TMO. I had the latest WM6.5.5 rom on it and it was good. I had plenty of apps, and everything was good. I was going to snag up the HD2 the day it came out cause of the big screen and the stable WM OS, trust me the rumors of it being unstable just are not true. My only dream was that there were more apps for the OS, I had a lot, but it seemed that there just were not many new ones coming out. Then WP7S (windows phone 7 series) was announced. Then no upgrade for current phones was put out. So I began to wonder. Then for Valentines day I decided to get me future wife a nice new phone. She had been using the same old Nokia clamshell for over 2 years and I had went from the same phone to a Shadow then to the Tilt. Well we went in and looked at phones she loved the Samsung Behold2 and I snagged it right then and there. She has absolutely flipped over that phone. So I took a look at it and really started to like it. I liked it so much that I decided to jump to a Nexus One and I have not looked back. With the current stale environment in windows mobile apps, the whole new windows phone 7 coming out it just doesn't make since to be in that field right now. I have done more in the last week with my N1 then I have done with both my old WM phones in the year and half I owned them. Take it from me, I have been in the WM arena for a year with the phones and 4 years prior to that with my old Ipaq. Wait till the WP7 dust settles and then go from there. Android is a good platform and I am loving it. will I stay with it, that is upto who the better platform is, not use sticking to what doesn't work for you.

T-Mobile hasn't even had their press conference yet. Of course it will be winmo7 compatible. If they came out and definitively said otherwise, no one would buy another 6.5 phone till 7 drops.every tlother phone got an upgrade when 6.5 came out. No reason to assume otherwise.
