UPDATE: SEE BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO TOGGLE 4G WITH TASKER

Ok guys n gals, so I've found out how to do this. Before you continue any further, understand that you must be rooted and running a custom ROM that supports 4G toggling (i.e. AOKP).

Step 1: Download this app from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.intangibleobject.securesettings.plugin&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5pbnRhbmdpYmxlb2JqZWN0LnNlY3VyZXNldHRpbmdzLnBsdWdpbiJd
Step 2: Open the app, go to Options and scroll down to Custom ROM Actions and ensure that "LTE" is checked
Step 3: Open up Tasker and create a profile entitled 4G On and choose your first context, whether that be battery or whatever else you want to "trigger" 4G to be set as "On."
Step 4: Click New Task at the top of the tasks list and name it 4G On.
Step 5: Click the + button and scroll to Plugins and you will see Secure Settings. Click it.
Step 6: You will see edit configuration; click edit
Step 7: Now you will see a list of the options you have enabled in Secure Settings. We care about 4G, so scroll down to LTE and click it. Then it will ask you what state you want LTE to be in. This is the 4G On profile, so click On. Save and apply the task.
Step 8: Repeat steps 3-7, but now choose the context you want for 4G to be off, name your profile and task 4G Off, and when you get to the configuration settings in Secure Settings, make sure you check Off for the state of LTE. Save and apply the task.

Now you're done! Make sure to click the checkmark on your profiles screen to ensure that your tasks are enabled :)

If anyone has any questions or needs any help creating a specific toggle for a specific task, let me know, but it really just comes down to what your first contexts are!

Thanks, but not looking for a toggle. I'm on a custom ROM with a toggle in the notification bar :) I'm looking to automate it to turn off if I have a certain battery level

I haven't looked into it, but try Juice Defender. There is a free version as well as 2 different pay versions. It looks like a really nice app.

I'm running it on my stock Nexus without any changes from the default settings and it is doing a great job as is. ;)

Yeah I'm keeping an eye out for it as well. I don't think Tasker can switch it. It will likely take some collaboration between the app developer and the custom rom developers. I use an app called SettingProfiles for switching profiles and there has been some collaboration in the past with CynanogenMod so I'm going to email the dev and see if there is any hope for having the LTE toggle available in the custom ROMs implemented in his app for switching on conditions.

I have a question involving Tasker and NFC tags. Not sure if anyone can help but I figured it's worth a try. I have the lock screen toggle off and on through Tasker and then programmed into a NFC tag I got from Tagstand. The problem is is it stops working after a few hours. I works great at first but then later on in the day I'll hit my lock key and there's my lock screen instead of my home screen. Tasker is up and running and I don't kill it in tasks. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be great, thanks!

I've never used any form of NFC tags, but just based on what I'm thinking, since you're likely running a custom ROM if you're reading this thread, it might depend on what kernel settings/governor you're using. Not sure, but if the device goes in to deep sleep, tags might not work.

Anybody know any way I can enable wimax. I'm trying to use the DPad feature to go to my setting and just scroll down and activate. Also, When enabling time for an "If statement", how do you input it in. Ya know where you click "task" then "If", you then get an input field that has a "%". How do you put a time range from time-time in that text field?
