Holy smokes guys, just got done spending easily five hours backing down this boot loader. I am running Mac so that made things about ten times more complicated because I had to run multiple VMware OS's. If anyone is going to do this and wants help but can't post in the XDA thread or doesn't want to, I ran into just about EVERY problem possible and figured out how to get around it so I'm definitely here to help.

This method is NOT for the faint of heart. Btw, I did not use the Live CD tool the other guy made. This was all manual.

Hmm...good point. But one version of the live cd still requires you to type out all the commands :p I just wouldn't want to deal with VMs.

It was more a matter of just doing everything manually. Learning how to get things done on a Mac when I need to use Windows or Linux. Took a little bit to get VMware running properly but now I know I can use it for anything. It's actually amazingly smooth to use on my computer.

Virtuals a re actually pretty good, if done right, ;)

Agreed.

I'm interested in this. I'm familiar with the tacoroot method for rolling back hboot on the evo 4g. would this also work with the 3d?

I'm running linux, prefer to work with adb and avoid the one-click programs if that's possible. I have win xp in virtualbox too though if it's necessary.

I did the taco root method via Windows 7. Everything up until the third step of the guide I used Windows for. The last part I used linux in a VM

Just wanna let you know. You don't have to roll hboot back to flash to metro. But if your familiar enough with cd and the os's for sure get rid of 1.5.

Wish I would've seen this before I started. :/ I am really excited to see it work though.

I hope I didn't screw up too much... I'm bricked and the ./downgrade doesn't seem to be working.

Did everything successfully bricking. My hboot looked identical to the one in the video, loaded the zip and it found it okay, waited a few minutes, plugged in the ac and pulled the battery, hit vol+up and after 5 seconds (right as the upload bar changed) pulled the ac. got the very dim red light (or maybe I was seeing things). Hopefully I'm bricked correctly.

Now maybe this is where I screwed up. I tried running ./downgrade on a 64 bit Debian instead of 32 bit... and it was stuck on "Waiting for device...". Tried it again in a 32 bit chroot and I get the same.

I'm hoping I can fix this... if you guys have any ideas let me know.

hmm... does anyone know of a link to a 1.13 ruu zip that isn't 404'd? been googling for a while and haven't had any luck. I did find 1B73E304B8F020EA221FBB772BC508AA but it wasn't recognized by hboot.

Don't have windows to run the shooter. my virtualbox will leave me with updates for 2 hours if I start it.

--edit

found one! in case anyone else in the future is looking... Goo.im Downloads - Browsing 1.13.651.7

343dd8ced08cf34d69fd1cf1ce4d10b2 seems to register.

Mr. jdsingle:

I would appreciate it very much if you could PM me your exact step-by-step on how you managed to achieve this downgrade. I have tried and failed utilizing man diferent methods, including the original method as described in XDA, then the AIO linux CD someone compiled am then using the zedomax technique still to no avail. I managed to brick it proper once (even gave the special device driver in windows) but then after many attempts using the AIO CD I gave up and am now trying again. I am very linux savvy and can most definitely execute any method using such an OS. So if you have process that might help, I'd certainly appreciate it 110%!
BTW the bricking process is the most irksome as Im sure you know, so if you have any insight to that issue especially that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Thank you for the quick response. My hboot gives me the option to update on the 2.17 stock image I used to regain stock after relocking so I've been using that one to attempt to brick, the timing is just killing me I guess, I've even had someone time exactly from the point it says update to the moment it moves onto the next listed update in the image. I tried to use tacroot but it put me into a bootloop; it wouldnt make it past the 3D splash and then it would go back to the starting sprint logo when it first boots. Sorry for all the noobness, I come from Samsung land.

Yeah that will work fine. Yeah the timing sucks, basically, the second you see it start updating, count and not slowly either, one-two-three-four-five and pull. Tacoroot was only needed to get the mainver down to a lower number. As long as you made it past that point you should be fine as long as you have verified you are on the correct mainver. I posted my complete instructions as to what I did. Tacoroot is known to have issues with it, it isn't an issue if it starts boot looping because once you change the mainver you're good to go anyways.

Not a problem!

I'm curious guys, how bad is HBOOT 1.50?

It isn't bad, you just can't boot from ROM manager into clockwork (CWM didn't want to even work on my HBOOT 1.50.xxx phone. It's more of a PITA to flash things. It's not horrible, but it is nice to be able to boot into recovery and flash whatever I want to with no problem and being s-off is nice.
