Help ZTE Warp Hitting buttons on its own

Hi Everyone, first post on the forum. I'm having a major issue with this phone in that the phone selects things, or presses buttons on its own. For example, after unlocking the phone, it might open the dialer and scroll around and make a phone call, or dial a random number. The phone will do this at basically anytime, when in my email, or on facebook, using the dialer, etc. I've done a system restore and the phone continues to act erratically even with no after market apps installed. I should also mention, I sent the phone to ZTE for a warranty repair, which took two weeks, and the problem persists.

Sometimes the phone is usable, sometimes it's mildly annoying (hits a few buttons, but nothing I can't correct easily), and other times the phone is completely unusable as buttons are being pressed so fast that user input is ignored.

I guess my question is, is there anything that I can do, or attempt to do that might fix the problem? If not, I guess my other option is to send the phone back for repair and hope its fixed or replaced. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

Are you absolutely positively sure that when you use the phone you aren't holding it in an unusual way that your fingertips could possibly be touching the edge of the screen anywhere? That's the only time I've ever experienced anything even remotely similar to what you've just described, and I've had a run of naughty phones.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am absolutely sure that I'm not inadvertently touching the screen. I can set the phone down on a table with my hands, and the rest of my body, completely away from the device and watch it go crazy.

Having to figure out which app is causing the crashes seems like a better idea than constantly having to reset the phone. I have a Slider with more apps than my Warp, and most of them linked awkwardly to an SD card. And you can guess which crashes more.

Thanks for the replies.

Regarding the hard reset, I do that constantly and it does not help.

As far as software goes, I'm not sure this is the issue. I've reset the phone back to factory default settings and it continues to press buttons on its own.

It looks like I'll be sending this phone back for warranty repairs for a second time...

I'll post a video when I get home showing the issue.

Thanks for being so sporting regarding this issue... at least here on the forum

Good luck with a replacement and be as clear as possible it's a replacement you need, not just a week-long software wipe performed at their factory.

I've elected not to send the phone back to ZTE because I don't think they will do anything, just re-image the phone (that's what they did last time and I'm still experienced issues after getting the phone back). I have reinstalled the operating system using the ZTE Handset software update tool and booting the phone into FTM mode. It seems to have fixed the issue, for now. Not being a smartphone expert, do you think this is a software issue, or a hardware issue? As stated earlier, the phone has hit buttons on its own even with the base operating system, immediately after a system restore. Also, if you watch the video, you'll see that the same location on the touchscreen is being pressed repeatedly (even when the phone switches from portrait to landscape view). I'm not sure if this is indicative of some sort of hardware issue. Thanks in advance for your help.

not a fix but maybe a work around try installing go contacts/go dialer setting it as your default see if that works,maybe even just go launcher?not sure just a thought.seems like its you launcher,

That to me would seem to indicate it's an app you're installing that cause(s)(d) it to behave that way.

I'd reinstall apps one at a time and test/trial between each install until it again behaves that way.

The phone is back to its old ways again. This is the second time the phone is doing this with NO applications installed. It's doing roughly the same thing in the video I posted above.

I should add, there are several locations on the touchscreen that don't work properly even immediately after the system upgrade. Although the phone is mostly usable, the 'd' key, comma key, and space bar don't work properly. These locations are when the screen is in the vertical position with the keyboard open. I believe this has something to do with the problem. These locations are roughly the same place where my phone just hits buttons repeatedly on its own. Something in the phone/touchscreen detect the touchscreen is being touched in these locations when that's not the case.

I hope ZTE replaces this piece of junk, but they're are terrible.

Put the video on the phone with a note attached, for them to view.

Can't say they'll read and view it but it can't hurt either.

Try using the touchscreen update apk in the system folder i believe it made mine more responcive

I've like to note I've experienced horrid behavior while charging with a generic fifteen foot USB cable. It made Swype entirely unusable and capacitive buttons almost impossible to use.

I have noticed the most major issues with left-to-right jitters, while it rarely jitters up and down.

Yes and no. It exacerbates the Warp's problems nicely (for demonstration purposes), although it actually works fine with any other phone in my arsenal. It's not great for charging, but it doesn't obliterate the functionality of the touchscreen either.

Why, ZTE. Just, why. :congrats:

I just received my phone back from ZTE. It seems like they got the repair correct this time around, yay! They didn't replace the entire phone, but the screen is new which seemed to be the root of the problem. I included a detailed letter outlining the phone's problems when I sent it in and I think that helped, that was a great suggestion. I'm also buying a few screen protectors on ebay to keep the screen safe. Thanks everyone for their help.
