So I have been on Verizon for 15 years never got insurance. So I got it for my daughter razor and my thunderbolt. My bolt dropped and cracked lowest I seen was 150. Taking a chance, bad esn or worse. Went on line to asurion at midnight paid 99 bucks got it overnight. It was the best thing ever, was well worth it. If the phone is a dud you tell them they send another. What's your story. Good or bad.

You can cancel insurance any time. On a new phone that would cost a couple hundred bucks to replace I want it. I think its $80 to replace a lost, stolen, broken phone. The warranty won't cover damage like drops.
I always keep insurance on a newer smart phone.
If you have a older phone that is out of contract and due for a upgrade then it's not worth it.

Nope, never get insurance on my phones. I am careful with my phones, and if I do break it I look at it as an excuse to upgrade :)

I do however have insurance for my 10 yr old daughter's phone. You just never know about lost or broken phones with kids even though so far in the last 4 years she has taken very good care of her smart phones and I haven't had to replace one.

I always get it because I figure my phone will get broken at work sooner or later. And I have actually used it on each of my last two phones. On my Dinc, I spilled coffee on it, paid my $100 at 7 pm and had a new (prolly refurbished) Dinc the next day by 2 pm. On my "feature phone", cracked the screen playing pool, paid my fee and got a new one. Always a good experience.

I just think you have to look at if your due for a upgrade and get a phone that would cost $400 to $800 to replace at full price if something happens to it $6.99 a month to replace it for $80 $90 isn't a bad deal.
I just don't have the money to replace a high end phone at full price. When the price of that phone drops to around $150 new without contract you can always drop the insurance.
I wouldn't get insurance on a LG Ally or Vortex but would on a Razr Maxx or iPhone 4s 32 or 64 GB.

What about bestbuy insurance. It is 9.99 for a phone over $550 and 6.99 for a phone under $550. It has no deductable and you can drop it at anytime. I figure I'll get it and drop it after I'm eligable for an upgrade or at least close.

I like the no deductable thang.

I believe to get Best Buy's insurance you need to buy a phone through them, though.

I can see it going both ways. If your prone to accidents (or just really paranoid) I could see it being worth it. Paying $600 up front retail is not something you do on a whim, especially when you make a little over minimum wage. But if you baby your phone and odds are that its not going to get broken anytime soon, then I could see it as throwing money out the window.

+1 For example, my wife is prone to accidents, so she has insurance. I'm careful, so no insurance for me.

I just keep my previous phone in case something happens, but I never pay for insurance.

Yep same here. Unfortunately, this time I cannot since I will be getting a 4G phone. One particular Verizon rep told me that I won't be able to reactivate my old phones on a 4G plan. Not sure why and maybe I misinterpreted what they said.

Besides, it doesn't hurt to have insurance. Only $5 and change for the one I want and replacement deductible costs $49. Not bad, not bad at all.

Not true. You can activate a 3G phone if you break a 4G phone. They just have to also make a change to your plan. I did this several times when I was working at Bestbuy mobile

Once an LTE SIM is disconnected from the line it can not be activated again so you would just need to get a new SIM...annoying? Yes but you can reactivate the phone.

@OP: I have insurance on both my lines. On my phone in the case of bricking mishaps or if my kids decide to go way out of line...they know not to touch daddy's phone. On the other line because it has always been used by people who don't understand the cost of a phone and have no issues abusing the phone or taking unnecessary risks with it.

Also remember you aren't paying VZW for the insurance you are paying Asurion or another company sometimes thru VZW, sure VZW probably gets part of the premium but they aren't getting all the insurance premium you see on your bill.
