I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE, FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not a dev nor am I promoting anything. This was done on a 1007 build, I am not sure if this method works on newer builds. This is how I do it, watch the videos here before attempting [GUIDE] How to Install a custom ROM *NOW WITH VIDEOS* - xda-developers. Choosing a rom is up to you, search on XDA for more info. I am currently running Firefly 1.5 with Firebird2 kernal and KP1 modem. I have excellant gps, call quality, speed, BT and hsupa [ROM][Rogers 2.2] FireFly 1.5 OPTIMIZED 1/17/2011!! - xda-developers. I am attaching the zip files needed. Download them, but dont unzip them. You will also need a zip program (I use winrar).

Edit:The zips wont upload, Ill have to try later.
Edit 2: The files wont upload, so Im including links at the end of the tutorial to download the files.

PULL THE SIM CARD AND EXTERNAL SD CARD IF YOU HAVE ONE. PUT THE BATTERY COVER BACK ON SO THE BATTERY DOESN

Thank you, thank you!

We newbies REALLY need these step by step instructions.

Oh, I would suggest adding between 1 and 2 to fully charge the phone.
You dont need a full charge. After you flash a rom, you can recalibrate the battery. Recalibrating is easy, but time consuming. I flashed roms with only 50% charge.

Will this process still work for Gingerbread 2.3.5 with the new Firefly 3.0, trying to decide if I have the courage to flash and install a new ROM on my phone. Really like the look of Firefly, just wish I knew somebody who has done this before. I'd like to think that I've done my homework on the matter and can pull it off even bought a jig from MobileTechVideos.COM for that uh oh moment.

I believe the with the new firefly 3.0 you need to have root and CWM. just place in sd card and flash.
Are you running stock? If you are, I can give you tips of how I flashed in GB

Hey, I would appreciate some tips. Yeah, I had a giant hassle going from stock 2.1 to try to install clockworkmod but didn't have 3 button access so upgraded to froyo but ran into the whole 3e/a thing where it wouldn't' allow non signed zips so finally gave up and upgraded back to gingerbread this morning, am rooted with the Corn Kernel with cwm by following this guide http://androidforums.com/captivate-...ng-adding-cwm-recovery-2-3-5-corn-kernel.html

That should be good as now you have CWM and are rooted. Now the only thing you should do is:
download the ROM you want
place in SD card,
take out sim and external card
reboot in CWM,
clear data/cache,
install rom.
let it reboot.
you should be good to go.

let me know if you need any help

Okay, so I took out my sim and external sd card,
rebooted into cwm,
cleared data/cache,
and selected "install zip from sdcard",
"Choose zip from sdcard",
navigate down to and select "firefly.zip",
navigate down to and select "Yes - Install firefly.zip".

Then it says something about amend scripting being removed it goes back to the apply update from .zip file screen to fast for me to read what all it says.

Upon reboot I'm back to 2.3.5 Gingerbread... I'm downloading firefly 2.7 and will attempt to install it the same way here in a bit cause well slow internet is slow ... an hour to download 160mb file <sigh>

Renamed the firefly.zip to update.zip and then just selected "apply update from sdcard" though it had the same effect it did leave the abort message onscreen

Install from sdcard
finding update package
opening update package
installing update
amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported
amend scripting was deprecated by Google in android 1.5
it was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery
Please switch to edify scripting (updater-script and update binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted.

Hey, just wanted you to know that I figured it out finally, had to install a new/different clockwork kernel which afterwords would not boot past the Samsung screen but i got into recovery and installed the ROM, it ran its course and rebooted into firefly 3.0.

Just wanted to thank you so much for helping me out with my first flash and rom install..

Really like the look of firefly but for some reason the swype isn't working it said something about a trail period and now it just beeps when i try to type with swype, which kinda sucks cause swype is all i ever used!

Will have to check ICS out, I did find a work around for swype. One question though, so from here on out if i wanted to try a new ROM, i just load it onto my internal sdcard, clear the data and cache and then install the new ROM.zip file?

I took your advice and gave ICS a try, well CyanogenMod9 ROM which is based on Android 4.0.4 and I absolutely love it. Think i'm actually going to stick with this one after going through FireFly, Mosaic9, Serendipity7, and finally on to CyanogenMod. Thanks for the Recommendation and again for all the help.
