What are the differences between gosms and handcent? I am considering ditching this stock apparently but am not sure which one is better? I like the stock app it works fine for me just the compressed slideshow is finally getting on my nerve. If I use a different SMS app does slideing a contacts name to the left in the contact list launch the stock sms app or can you make it launch whichever one you want?

you can pick which app you use when sliding to the left on the name once you install another messaging app. and ill give another vote for go sms, been using it forever, used handcent for a little which back before go sms came out and it was good then, its kinda been left in the dust in my opinion

BUMP this is a good thread for when I get the Galaxy S2.

I don't know why the OP is so irritated about this phone.

Apple really got to him. I am so glad I never got sucked into that cult. I do own a few Apple stuff but that's because some of the stuff is best in the market.

Always looking for a new group to rise. Took only 4 years and here it is... Samsung-Google combo!

any idea why handcent is no longer available on the android market? I got sms pro and it works great, I like it better than chomp sms, but I would like to try handcent

The apk is still available on the Handcent website. I ran across a thread that talked about a temp issue with Handcent and that is why Google pulled it. Not many details but you can still grab it off the website.

That's weird about Handcent. :/

I used to use Handcent and did so for several months. Probably 7-8 months. I tried Go and was hooked. They both do the same things, but Go does them better.

I too used Handcent for several months. Just tried Go because of this post.
Am very glad I did.
Go sms just seems smoother, and inexplicably better.
Plus the cool 3D page flip when you swype left and right is very cool :)

is there a way to change out the stock message icon at the bottom with one of these apps?

You can put any app you want down in the dock, as far as just changing icons, you can't do that with Touchwiz.

Go into Apps, then hit the menu key, then choose Edit, then drag any icon you want down to the bottom dock.

The last comment prior to mine ... " I forced myself to stop caring about it " Really is the type of attitude you must have if you want to stick with an Android OS device. Android attempts to be a jack of all trades and we all know what line comes after that... master of none.

This default "slideshow" view is simply lack of attention to detail. There is no good reason for it to be this way. Its amusing to see people slam Apple but then see a stupid feature such as this on the default messaging app when messaging is a key feature / use of these devices.

That's just how gingerbread does MMS.

It's irritating but there's a simple workaround.

Touchhold the MMS message, select forward. Then touchhold the picture and select view.

You get the full picture with zooming.
Just press back, back and then discard.

It seems like a long process but you get used to it and it's really quick.

And it's the only thing can do besides downloading it and going to all the way to your gallery.
