Root Just got the Rezound, Help me void my warranty!

well,techinically the s-off method does not get you "off the hook" with htc/vzw. the s-off exploit needs root to work,and therefore you do need to unlock and root with htcdev prior to running it. what folks are excited about is the ability to remove the visual telltale sign of your bootloader being relocked instead of lockedas it came from the factory. in all honesty,this prolly is good enuff for factory warranty purposes,but be aware that unlocking with htcdev does technically void "all or parts of your warranty" and since your unlock token is psecific to your phone,its possible for htc to retain info obtained from your phone(like serial number) and refuse any claims sent in from vzw. this could mean the fill retail price of the phone appearing on your phone bill in an extreme worse case


1. What are the key details I should probably know before I follow the root guide for this phone and install a custom ROM? htcdev unlock does not allow the boot image to be flashed from recovery. this makes rom flashing a little different from devices that can. most notably,recovery will need to be launced from fastboot to flash roms or restore backups,or the boot image will need flashed seperately.Any of you guys come from a moto phone and know something that I will find totally different? Also, is S-off a good idea? IMO it is,as long as you accept the responsibility. it lets you change radios,splash images,and all partitions of the phone,and it also removes the security checks that keep us from flashing unsigned by htc files,and flashing older software versions.I just bought this phone today, so being able to unlock the bootloader WITHOUT voiding the warranty would be pretty cool. But if it's not as good as just using the dev unlock then I don't want to do it.like i said above... no way around it right now. achieving s-off will let you remove visual signs of having been unlocked,and its unlikely htc will care enuff to research the devices they get back for having been unlocked. so defiantely do the factory unlock procedure in the stickyed guide. you can use the phone this way,and do the s-off procedure later if you want to... its by no means neccessary to root and rom the phone.

2. Here comes the big question. I'm a little overwhelmed by the choice of roms for this phone. On the Bionic I really only had 3 choices worth mentioning. I am fairly certain I want to go with an ICS rom (assuming a stable fully functional one is available) but I'm not totally against sticking with GB if it means I won't have weird issues. I finally got tired of the data issues and lack of hardware accel on the Bionic roms so I went to Eclipse. I'd rather not pick up where I left off with a rom that barely works.

we have alot of good devs here,and most are using the stock roms as a base,so they are extremely functional. even the ones based on the ICS leak,work well. scott scrossler "clean roms" are a forum favorite. i also like nilsp's business sense,as i like the dark theme. unfortunately,there are no daily driveable AOSP(cm7 or cm9) roms out yet

best advice i have right now,is do NOT run the leak RUU on an s-on phone,wich will upgrade you to ICS hboot,radios,etc. its safer and easier to just flash custom roms in recovery.
