Root [CDMA] HBOOT 1.50 to 1.40 Method

True well in willing to take the dive and downgrade I'm savvy in ways I'm just having trouble downloading the RUU's I get a download slots are full type of note any ideas to get around that?

I'll check this weekend to see if I have them still. If I do, I can upload them to dropbox so you can snag them.

Haha alright guys i need some help, i know i should be posting this on the HBOOT 1.50 to 1.40 thread, but i haven't seen it alive since yesterday so yea.
Anyways i attempted to root my 3VO but i believe to have messed up.
Its not a big mess up, but its not right...
So i have the Zip file 2.17 in my SD card and i went into the BOOTLOADER and it read the zip file (BTW it said ***LOCKED*** at the top which was good) now when i tried bricking it i counted 5 seconds until i unplugged. I did take out the battery before i unplugged and i had it connected to my HTC charger. i attempted this 4 times, each time the little dim light was flashing it wasn't solid, but when i reentered the BOOTLOADER i saw ***Security Warning*** underneath ***LOCKED*** crap does this mean i have to run the stock RUU? i could really use some help, i love a challenge but sometimes even a professional needs help haha :shot:

Update - ok so i fixed it i just flashed the RUU 2.17 even though it reset my phone and i lost a few apps the ***Security Warning*** is off so now time to try again lol

Are you using a linux OS? I've seen people being able to do it with a Windows emulation of Linux, but the downgrade author mentioned that Windows is too slow to brick the phone via USB. You need linux (or a linux live CD)

I have the ubuntu Linux live cd running on my laptop as we speak, now here's a big question does the charger need to be connected an outlet or the laptop while its running Linux? Also does the battery life count?

The phone's USB? I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be connected to the laptop. I think the laptop's charging status is irrelevant.

For the record, I've never done this process. I'm on HBOOT 1.4 and never went to 1.5.

You have to have it connected to the laptop while running linux but only plug it in when the directions say to. If you are in the process of bricking your phone, it needs to be plugged into a wall outlet. The security warning is fine, either start over or try continuing based on whether you have the flashing red light.

Ok I bricked it and downgraded it now I'm trying to install the RUU 1.13 but how should I have the phone? Turned on all the way or on bootloader what?
^^Forget the top^^
So I go to bootloader and select fast mode and connect it but I keep getting and error saying my cable might not be connected, has anyone run into that?
^^fixed^^
I didn't have the drivers installed
Well as I updated the RUU it told me I didn't have the right hboot I have 1.40 now

It happens after flashing a RUU. You can't use fastboot flash recovery commands. You have to install the ZIP file version. For TWRP 2, get the ZIP version from here: TeamWin Projects - TWRP 2.1 | TeamWin

Then rename to "pg86img.zip" (caps don't matter) and put it in your SD card. Reboot into bootloader and say yes.

But seriously, 4EXT >>>>> TWRP. Once you get running and have SU on your ROM, definitely check out 4EXT. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561999

------------------

To fix the HBOOT not taking recovery files via fastboot, you need to download either the engineering HBOOT or the 1.4 SHIP HBOOT. I found the files from here: [GUIDE] Root Your EVO 3D + TWRP + Eng Hboot NO ADB No Fastboot STEP by STEP [UPDATE] - xda-developers

But made them easier to download:

https://www.box.com/s/8875f2cdef8376d9faab - SHIP Hboot 1.4
https://www.box.com/s/16784692ef5070895b8f - ENG Hboot 1.4

If you don't want any crazy extended fastboot commands, get the SHIP version. If you want crazy extended fastboot commands, get both. If you ever have to flash a RUU, it's recommended you be on SHIP HBOOT, as you have a chance to brick if you're on ENG. I survived flashing a RUU on my ENG HBOOT, but I won't risk that again.

But same deal. Make a copy, rename it to "pg86img.zip" and stick it in the root of your SD card. Reboot into bootloader and flash.

Yea I've used revolutionary on my EVO 4G before and I've tried about 8 times to root the 3VO but each time it says failed to root. Am I missing something?

Revolutionary failed for me every time I tried on Windows. I ultimately had to switch over and run Revolutionary from a Linux virtual machine before it would take hold. I should have directions on how to do that in my OP.
