installed CleanRom 4.2 on my htc rezound and all it did was continually reboot after about 15-25 seconds of being on the rom. Tried to install PH98IMG.zip and now all it does is stay on the htc white screen when turning on the phone please help. was going to take it into versizon and try to get it replaced under warranty but the bootloader shows its unlocked

Any Ideas????

sounds like you are on the old firmware(for 2.01.605.11)

i flashed the stock system and boot images on my phone, and thats what happened-constant bootloops.

in order to run that rom,you will need to run the leaked RUU first,or simply run an older version of cleanrom,if scott has them available.

pretty much any rom based on 3.11.605.22 is going to be off limits until youve run the leak ruu to get the new firmware.

so i need help installing the new firmware. everytime i start my phone without going into the bootloader menu it just sits on the htc screen. when i go into the bootloader menu it wont let me select anything it automatically redirects me to some update thing.this is what it shows

*** UNLOCKED ***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.11.000
eMMC-boot
Oct 6 2011,15:43:22

HBOOT

Parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1] BOOT
Do you want to start update?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No

when ever i hit yes it just loads the update and puts me in the same htc screen. if i pull my sd card i can get into the clockworkmod recovery but then cant access my sd card to run my backup.

1)you will need to remove whatever PH98IMG is lingering on your sd card. this is one thing i hate about the roms auto-placing a PH98IMG on the sd card, then booting you to bootloader to flash it. after installing a rom that does this:
YOU WILL NEED TO CONNECT TO YOUR PC,OR USE A FILE MANAGER,AND DELETE PH98IMG FROM YOUR SD CARD. easiest way is to put the sd card into a card reader,or even another cell phone that you can plug into your PC.

2)you will need to relock to run the RUUs. if you want to run the leak RUU to get the new firmware,it may save you some fustration to run the one for 2.01.605.11 first,if you are not on stock softwware.

on the other hand,if you are wantin to restore a backup before flashing, for whatever reason, all you need to do is this:
-place your recovery image into your folder containing adb and fastboot
-boot to hboot(after removing PH98IMG)
-select fastboot with power button
-enter this command to launch recovery:
fastboot boot recoveryname.img

that will boot your recovery into phone memory from fastboot, letting you restore a backup without haveing to flash a kernel seperately.

so i am downloading the new firmware now is there anyway i can just flash it to my phone without relocking it. can i just delete the old ph98img.zip and rename the new firmware i downloaded as ph98img.zip then flash it to my phone in fastboot?? at this point i will do almost anything to just have my phone back to running order i just feel i am a step or two away from getting the rom to run correctly

no,you cannot load the new firmware without relocking.

remember, the "new firmware" is a whole RUU,and in order to flash it,you have to relock first.

again,i suggest running the stock 2.01.605.11 RUU first.

as i said,if you just want a workign phone with the old firmware, launch recovery as i described and restore a backup. if you go to a permanent recovery, you cannot restore a backup without flashing a kernel.

i know that the questions i am asking are getting a little irritating but from the point that i am at now can i get a walkthough to get back to a factory reset phone locked so i can just download the leak and get ics. sorry i am some what of a noob but i would greatly appreciate it i have been without a phone for almost a week now :/

so i am not entirely sure what the amon ra is i am running the clockworkmod touch recovery is there a walkthough i downloaded the mini ruu and the setmainversionlow.zip the zip is placed on the root of my sd am i able to still move forward?

it doesnt really matter what recovery you are running, just place its image into the same folder that contains ADB and FASTBOOT and when you enter:
fastboot boot recovery-ra-vigor-3.14-gnm.img
you will simply substitue the "recovery-ra-vigor-3.14-gnm" part for whatevr you recovery image is named.

if you dont have a recovery image for clockwork touch, its no biggie. just download amon ra from the first post and use the directions as-is. you are temp launching the recovery into phone memory for the purposes of flashing the setmainversionlow.zip,so it doesnt matter if clockwork is on your phone,or even the stock recovery. whatever permanent recovery youre running will be overwritten when you flash the RUU.

and yes,put "setmainversionlow.zip" on the root of your sd card. flash it like you would any rom after launching the recovery. no need to do any wipes, just flash the .zip.

So, I am new to the HTC seen in terms of rooting and flashing ROMS. I am coming from previously only having Motorola phones that I rooted, etc.

I seem to have a similar problem that sk8er is having with the constant boot-looping. I can get things up and running just fine, but after 10-30 seconds it reboots itself to no end. I am assuming that I need to do something with the RUU, which I'm not entirely sure of. I did go back on to my SD card and delete the automatic PH98IMG off of the card, now I'm not sure what to do next.
I'm not clear on how to re-lock and then update firmware, then unlock again...

I apologize if you already answered my problem in replying to sk8er, but I'm still not understanding what to do. Any help you have would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

follow the link in post 9 for directions to run either the full RUU,or the "mini-ruu" and relock.

once youre stock again, follow the procedure to run the full RUU,but this time substitute the 2.01.605.11 ruu for the leaked ICS ruu. this will put you on leaked ICS software and firmware. you can run it as is,or you can flash roms based on the leak and new firmware.

be 100% sure that you want to do this, however,as THERE IS NO REVERTING BACK TO GINGERBREAD IF YOU RUN THE LEAK RUU. until an s-off method is release,it is forever and permanent, and youre "stuck" with it until newer leaks come out.

there are still some older ICS roms, based on older leaks, and using your current firmware(hboot 2.10 or 2.11) you may want to try one of them out first before committing to running the RUU. :)

I was having the exact same issue with 4.3 since I was not aware "older firmware" for the patch meant pre-ICS (since I'd just completed the latest GB OTA and assumed it pertained to the previous version I had been on). Therefore, upon install constant reboots began after the standard Android setup had completed.

To fix, I did have to remove the mentioned "PH98IMG" on the removable SDCard b/c it was keeping me from accessing Amon Ra Restore (Used a card adapter in my laptop). Once gone I simply re-performed the ROM install per instructions with the missing step...
- Wipe the memory
- Install from zip image
- THEN select the "Old Firmware Patch.zip" file under the specified CleanROM folder
- Manual reboot bootloader
- etc, etc

All is running beautifully. No need to re-lock, RUU, etc

On a side note for anyone who doesn't know.. BEFORE you wipe and think you are safe regarding data / Titanium Backup: Annoyingly, the Rezound and apparently quite a few other newer models set the initial "SDcard" parameters to the expanded internal memory. This means many defaulted items you think are being placed on external memory are NOT. The actual removable SD Card is found under ext-sd (some other phones are sd2). You will need to manually adjust misc programs for settings/data backup to the proper ext-SD path in order to send files to the removable memory! I don't have a list, but know for sure Titanium is one of the programs which defaults to the internal "sdcard" memory.

What exactly is the old_firmware_patch.zip ?

Is it changing the radio firmware on the Rezound phone?
Or is it patching the cleanrom to be able to work with the older radio firmware?

Ok, so I'm doing this right now (just ran fastboot and loaded the Amon Ra recovery image) and I noticed I'm in CWM and it gave me the option to reboot and also recovery. Since I'm trying to learn along the way I'm assuming what happened is my phone is now looking to the Amon Ra recovery image which is basically like flashing a rom, only it's a recovery image and my phone will load into whatever rom is in the recovery, right?
Since I did a nandroid backup before loading any roms (first time I ever actually did a nandroid backup in the four phones I've rooted and rom'd - lol) can I actually load the nandroid backup now instead of using Amon Ra's recovery image?

im not completely sure what youre asking. recovery is used to manipulate your phones OS. you can flash new software, backup software, and restore it.

what roms are flashed are determined by what roms you place on the SD card, and then select to flash with the recoveries menus.

due to the way htcdev unlock works, we cannot write the kernel from a permanent recovery. therefore, even if you like to keep a permanent recovery,id strongly reccomend booting your recovery from fastboot(fastboot boot recoveryname.img) whenever you want to restore a backup that needs a kernel chagne,as launching it from fastboot does allow the kernel flash. since we have s-off now, more and more rom devs should prolly start including scripts to install the kernel from recovery. if you are in the habit of fastboot booting your recovery, youll be able to install the rom normally, with no seperate kernel flash. just like s-off :)

but at any rate, the recovery is alot more than just for restoring backups. ;)

hope that helps :)

ok so I guess maybe I am in the same boat here.. first thanks scotty for you patience... this is my backup phone I am pretty happy with my nexus but I would like this phone to work well when I need it...

I have my rezound in a stuck configuration it will not complete the boot... I did not re-lock and update the ruu... I am runnig the .1 ruu from the first leak though.

I can get into recovery... I can access the card from my laptop through a card reader... I cannot see my phone from adb since it does not boot all the way...

any suggestions?

UPDATE: for anyone with same problem if you boot into recovery adb should see your device... I am now going to try the steps in post 9...

sounds like you need to flash a kernel. you should be able to falsh a kernel for whatever rom you flashed,or,if you fastboot boot the recovery from fastboot, you can restore a backup. flashing an RUU,or the mini-ruu of course should get you up and running, but are prolly not really needed.

if thats not enuff info to get you up and running,we need a lil more info on what youve done up to this point :)
