Updated[13.2.12] Discuss all Samsung Galaxy S III rumors/release date/speculation/news

The Exynos might only work with Korean LTE frequencies and not the US ones. That's why they would need Qualcomm. I guess we'll find out next week.

I guess so too. Technically if they could manage to make new Exynos work with their LTE chip, it should be possible to make it work with LTE frequencies in US.
But the big question is how stable, reliable is their new Exynos/LTE setup? If it's not fully baked yet, I would rather have qualcomm S4/LTE configuration which is more proven and stable.

Still just 1080p video recording @ 30fps. Not a good start...
I really don't understand why you are bothered by this, it is not a dedicated camcorder device. If I was so bothered by this fact that it effects my video recording quality, I would spend extra money to buy a dedicated camcorder with better quality. And digital camcorder are really cheap now.

Well if the 'new' 30fps comes without a grainy and blurry mess when moving about, then all is well.

In regards to the 'lesser' 1.4Ghz, remember that Apple underclock the iPhone, and are reaping some kind of performance benefit from doing so, so Samsung may be trying to deliver their own blend of this trick with the S3, and may even smack-talk the Gigahertz war a little at the event.

I was still holding out for a console announcement (or to announce that it's on the agenda), but now I don't think they'd want such news stealing headline weight away from the SIII.

I agree. The other problem is that Qualcomm said they are having difficulty in getting the S4 out in volume. That might make the US launch much later. I currently have the Skyrocket and am not about to give up LTE to get the quadcore and HSPA+ only. I hope it is available from ATT before the iphone 5.

From what I can gather that setup would be as good as or outperform the quad core, so why wouldn't they make all models with that ?
I think it'll be the snapdragon thing and they will release another phone in the next 12 months with the 5250 and LTE

Regardless of performance it would be cheaper for them to use the chip they produce themselves than buy one from Qualcomm. Business 101.

Exactly if they can manufacture and install there own chip cheaper its a no brainer. Stupid U.S. LTE networks are killing me!!! not really but you guys understand what i am saying.

Hope you guys in the U.S get it for Christmas, I think it will really hurt Samsung if it doesn't happen, I'm sure they know Apple will be ready to start Patent Wars episode XIV to block Christmas sales on the SIII in the U.S, and I hope Samsung has some countermeasure patents to fight the iPhone 5 with, We may possibly see a humungous patent poopstorm later this year, making what we've seen so far look mild.
I'm afraid you're right, this just sucks for consumer, delaying products and raising the price.

care to explain what you mean? underclocking a cpu makes the cpu slower, so why would there be a performance gain?

Went and dug up what I read a while back: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/10/if-these-early-iphone-4s-benchmarks-are-legit-its-fast/

"A lower clock not only means higher yields from the factory, but likely a lower operating voltage as well. Dropping a CPU’s core voltage, yields a greater-than-linear decrease in power consumption, making the marginal loss in clock speed a good choice. At a lower operating frequency than its Android competitors, Apple does have to exploit its strengths in software to avoid any tangible performance penalties. Apple has traditionally done this very well in the past, so I don’t expect the loss of frequency to be a huge deal to the few who do cross-shop iOS and Android."

On a side note, I should totally get Telstra's SII 4G (again, it's counterfeit 4G - it's just a 40mbps ceiling HSPA+ network) and sell it on ebay as an S3, it's a supersized SII that retains the home button, unlike the american ones. Looks very similar to the fake S3s lol.

And now a shot of the back of the phone from the same link

gsmarena_002.jpg

Well if they're from the same tipster, now we know they are both definitely fake.. the 2nd image has been up on the net for a while now and doesn't look like it follows the curvier form factor of the first. Haha as others have pointed out, a bunch of leaks are going to be coming closer to the release date, but ppl like me just can't settle down and wait :(

It's totally fake. Has no one noticed that second image of backside is actually GSII Epic touch on Sprint? These medias are just grabbing any garbage info to throw out rumor headlines. Now they got only three days to do that.

I'm not buying those pics either, the one of the front of the phone is utterly horrendous as a product shot, it shows no detail and is somewhat vague at the top of the screen/samsung badge.

Meanwhile, AnTuTu claim that the benchmark recorded was definitely real and it definitely is the i9300 : AnTuTu: Samsung Galaxy S3 benchmark is real | News | TechRadar

My opinion ? ok it was an i9300, but if its the i9300 and if the i9300 is definitely the S3, who knows.

ETA: The "wake up" stunt down under appears to of been done by RIM: http://www.slashgear.com/rim-reportedly-involved-in-anti-apple-wake-up-campaign-30225212/

their tipster said it would be available the week after release and that Sammy want to show off more than one phone hinting towards the i9800.
"this is just the beginning"

I hope said "tipster" is legit. I posted this in the AC forums a few days ago, hopefully it will become a reality.

"In light of the recent Kies software GS 3 spot, I am really considering that the GT-i9300 (and T model) will in fact be the next iteration in the Galaxy S line and Samsung's next truly flagship device (GT-i9800 possibly) will be named something else entirely. Why go through all the secrecy and hype of releasing your "next" premier phone, only to blatantly display it through your own software a week early?"

hmmm... the picture isn't new but this "premium" item confuses me a bit.

They already have the nexus and the S line and the note so why do they need another phone/line ? It would crowd the market wouldn't it ?

If the i9800 isnt an S line phone maybe its a phablet, to complement the note ?

And what happened to the i9500 ?
