Root Cyanogen Guide HTC Wildfire S

So I see that a number of people have mentioned that they have cyanogen installed on their wildfire s but I can't find a guide anywhere... Am i missing it or does it not exist? I only got this silly thing cause i actually mistook it for the Wildfire which is supported by cyanogen Q_Q

Specifically the one i have is from US Cellular PG76200

Unfortunately, there is no working CyanogenMod ROM for your CDMA phone. The working CM7 ROMs out there are for GSM (PG67100). However, there is a CM7 ROM under development for your phone:

They are currently looking for beta testers, so if you aren't sure how to flash a custom ROM then I personally wouldn't recommend that you try it. The best stuff for your phone can be found here: Tutorials, Roms, Team MarvelUSc -- EVERYTHING YOU NEED

So i followed this guide to unlock, and root my phone.

and it worked great!

However, after i get cwm (5.8.1.9) installed i can not boot into it either via the rom manager or via the bootloader. It's quite frustrating! the few times i've gotten it to boot into into cwm it starts to back up the system and just sits there for a while before rebooting. when i look in the rom manager section about managing backups, there is nothing listed. arrrrg! Help!

I think you flashed the wrong version of CWM Recovery. Try to reflash using the version found in my guide for MarvelC.

Er... Where is that? Is that the guide you linked before? I just flashed http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvelc.img
and am having the same problem.

I previously tried this one http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.8.1.9-marvelc.img

and also tried flashing it from rom manager.

It will occasionally open cwm recovery. However when i then try to create a backup, it hangs on backing up and eventually the phone reboots itself.

I think you have some other issue. What ROM are you running? Any chance that it's overclocked?

I don't see anything in there about clockwork mod. The device is already unlocked and rooted.

look more down in the OP thread:
"Custom Recovery:
Prerequisites: S-off, Fast boot in the settings menu OFF, Root (as far as I know, you may not need root)
1) Keep your gold card from when we got your Wildfire to S-off
2) Download http://www.mediafire.com/?x80higzqm0zqpbp DO NOT unzip (thanks 2fast4u88 for the recovery)
3) Now move this file to the root of your gold card UNZIPPED
4) Pull the battery
5) Put the battery back in and hold the Vol DWN rocker and power button, then install the Zip with up arrow.
6) Wait for the update symbol to go away, and your done. Pull the battery out, and boot like normal. You MUST delete this zip to boot into custom recovery. Custom recovery is accessed by the VOL DWN and Power then down to recovery then power. Your now in our new recovery.
This guide is created by me, however I DIDN'T create the recovery file, a Dev I can not find the name to did. It is tested, and 100% working"

Ah I was a bit literal when i looked for it. I just flashed that recovery and it is behaving in the same way.

I don't know if it matters but i am still S-On. I don't know what that really means though so I don't know if that is relevant.

Also, my phone is the PG76200 and that recovery image appears to be for the PG76100 or so the text file seems to indicate

Oh, and i did flash it with the "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" rather than by creating a gold card and so forth. I wouldn't think it would make a difference though.

Well..his guide does say that you need S-off..and I read somewhere that CDMA phones require S-off. So maybe that's where the problem is...

I've found the gsm recovery (5.0.2.6) made by alquez works best of all I've tested (for both CDMA and GSM)... although the newer official CWM (5.0.2.8) is built from the same device tree (so is just as good if you have a gsm device). If you're s-off, no problems flashing the recovery... if you're htc unlocked, it may grumble about not having the right carrier ID... simple fix there...
Don't really have to be a dev on this one (if you know how to use winzip that is)... just grab the RUU HTC handed to you before you unlocked your bootloader... run it... when the phone screen comes up... STOP, press CNTL+ALT+DEL, select task manager, go to processes tab, select ARU Installer, right click and go to process/folder, in that folder there will be a rom.zip... select, copy, and paste it somewhere you can find it and work with it (later)... now back at the phone screen hit cancel (you're done with that... if you hit cancel too early the temp folder goes away and you won't get your chance to copy and paste that rom.zip we talked about earlier)... now open up rom.zip... there it is.. the file you want android-info... extract it out of that zip... now grab the recovery PG76IMG.zip and import/replace the existing android-info with the one you just pulled, et voila... Alquez's always works

[fix for htc unlocked but still s-on] flash it in hboot.
The official CWM for cdma didn't work right last time I tested (5.0.2.8), someone buzz me if they fix it and I'll test again.

What is your suggestion? Which rom is works better on "Wildfire S"? Battery life, Camera quality and high speed are important for me.

Marvelc phones don't have a working version. But Marvel phones do have Cyanogen roms which work fine and which I quite like

You should have a look at Alquez's CM and see if it's something you would like
I currently have the 7.1 as the 7.2 still had quite a few glitches but that was a couple of months ago. Maybe it works fine now

I had Alquez's CM 7.2 for some weeks. glitches didn't fixed yet and he doesn't work on it anymore.

Everything was working great but it had some major bugs. you can check its topix in XDA-Developers.

I've been running clockworks 5.0.2.8 on my CDMA model Wildfire S since December and never have had a single problem with the half a dozen apps I've tried. latest one is Alquez's CM7 which running almost a week and I've only came across 2 problems with about 74 apps on my phone. auto rotate doesn't work, nor does MMS. otherwise I haven't had an issue with running the ROM.

Then I suggest you try 7.1. I didn't find any glitches till now.
