(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

I am already on 4.0.4 :) I just want the radio updates. If there are any improvements in this over the current 4.0.4 AOSP, I can wait for those. The biggest thing I was hoping for in this update is the new radios (not that it's a guarantee they will improve things at all).

I have a feeling that one of the radio tweaks is to show 3G signal instead of 4G signal like the rest of Verizon's phones (they said they were going to do it). Beyond that I can see them doing some reception tweaks, but not too much more.

My real hope is that the updated OS will fix some of the issues our fellow Verizon members are having like the silent call issue.

I've been on 4.0.4 for a while and my phone is great.

Wouldn't that be a function of the OS and not the radios? Both dBm readings are available to the OS, so I'd think that'd be a UI thing. I sure hope so, because I don't want a placebo and I disagree entirely that it should be showing 3G bars when it has a 4G signal just because GB is limited and "other phones do it".

I wouldn't hold my breath on the muting call issue. GSM people have the same problem (even on 4.0.4), so it's not VZW specific and if they've fixed it, I would be surprised if Google hadn't pushed them for the fix so they could get it merged into AOSP...

Agreed, same here :) AOKP b29 I think it was? In any event, the AOKP build that merged 4.0.4.

according to that article the Kernel is newer as well. So like OTD said i want the whole build. I will run stock for a week or so anyways to get a feel for stock so i can help with people that don't root. Then i'll flash a Rom once it's been updated with all of the latest and greatest.

Well yeah I'd expect the kernel to be 4.0.4-based. I wonder if it has anything that improves upon what's in some of the popular gnex kernels (faux, lean kernel, franco, etc).

You may be right about the OS function. Either way, I hope the actual dBm improve and not just the bars.

I agree, a placebo is nothing I care about either. Then again, we know the difference and most users won't so they will see more bars (like being on At&t ;)) and be satisfied with that.

I'm still hoping. I hate seeing people leave the phone they really want because things aren't working properly. I don't blame them for doing it; I just think it sucks.

The muting call issue is the one and only reason why I want this update. I thought it was a Samsung/Verizon (CDMA) issue, not an OC/ICS issue. We will see very soon if this fixes the issue. *crosses fingers*

**edit** As OTD stated, I'm leaving the Nexus if this doesn't fix the issue. I hate to do it, but I need it to function as a phone. /Still missing my StarTAC.

Where's esmith818? He was going to dump the Nexus if the update didn't drop by 5/1/12. Hang on a little longer! :)

I have a test device from Verizon that I'm testing for the company I work for. The update came in about an hour ago on the device. See pics below.

I was talking to tech support with Verizon about my problems with signal connectivity in my area for 3G and 4G and they said there was an update to the software coming May 1st, so tomorrow.

Do you guys think this is for 4.0.4 ?

Also on another note when they asked for what version of software I had and I said Android 4.0.2 they said they needed a build number instead an ICL number. Why did they ask for that instead? Just wondering.

Let me be the first to thank you OP. I was skeptical, but it seems the person you spoke with was credible. Cheers!

They offered me that option also. What device did you ultimately use and did you have to pay full price for it?
I received the razr Maxx and am very happy with it. I didnt pay anything they just traded straight across and they even gave me a credit on my account to purchase a sd card..I see the update for the Gnex might be rolling out. After 3 Gnex phones I don't trust the phone. I hope all the issues get fixed but I have a feeling some issues won't be solved. The Maxx will receive ics within the next month, so I will have ics and a amazing battery. I use my phone constantly and have only charged it 3 times since Friday ...
