I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on another Nexus coming to Verizon. After running cm7 (AOSP-based) on my HTC Incredible and then being stuck with sense on the Rezound for a while until I exchanged back for a Nexus, I have realized there is NO way I want to run a skinned phone again. I want an unlocked bootloader and AOSP ROMs from the get go.

So what do you all think? Will Big Red pick up another Nexus? I really hope so...But I'm wondering if Verizon only got the Galaxy Nexus because they were able to get a period of exclusiveness in the US? If, next time, they aren't the exclusive (initial) carrier, do you think they'll pass on it?

I'm hoping for an HTC or Moto Nexus next, and that it's on Verizon. This one is great, but the screen and radios are not the best. I'd be amazingly happy with a quad core 720p SLCD (or IPS) display with moto or rezound quality radios. :)

I can only hope the Nexus line returns to Verizon, even if I'm under a two year contract with the current one now. It would be nice to pick up the Nexus in December of 2013!

As for what company supplies the hardware, I think that's already been given to Samsung. Here's one of the articles talking about it:
Rumor: Samsung making the next Nexus phone | Android Community
Of course, it's still rumor, but I wouldn't put it past Google to go with the strongest selling company to make the next Nexus.

No, not initially. I'm guessing from here on out the exclusive initial release of the nexus will be a gsm phone, with Verizon and sprint getting their versions later...also google has stated time and time again that they will have no part in running or developing products for Motorola, so they have the same chance as everyone else of landing the next nexus.

I have my doubts. At least for 2011/2012, Google seems to be having problems with the devices on VZW that they don't have with the GSM variants, due to the fact that CDMA is a proprietary technology whereas GSM isn't. I don't know if LTE will work like GSM, or if it has proprietary components to it that would inhibit Google from releasing updates in the fashion they see fit, though I think that would be a large portion. I also see how VZW has a stake in ISIS, which competes with something Google wants to do with their phones. I could easily see that coming into play as well.

IMO, I don't think VZW will be getting the next Nexus.

With how they've been treating the G-Nex as a second class phone, the whole Google Wallet issues and now it's rumored that the white G-Nex not happening....I don't see them having another go with the Nexus series.

Agreed. It. Wouldn't surprise me if Google doesn't offer the next one to Verizon and Verizon doesn't ask for it.

I don't think Verizon will get the Nextus (see what I did there?)... I think Verizon is big on exclusives and honestly I don't think they will want it. I don't think Google or and of the Manufacturers would want to keep Verizon out just because they run CDMA.... they are the biggest carrier in the US and its hard to exclude those numbers from your bottom line.

That said, I think by 2013 or 2014, it may not matter since they will be running LTE with Voice over LTE.... at some point the 3G CDMA network will be left out of the newest phones and the problem with direct updates rolling out should be gone.

I hope VZW DOESN'T get the next Nexus. They really just ruin the "pure google" experience, by delaying the updates, and monkeying with it (removing Google Wallet for instance). Honestly, f**k VZW and their controlling ways.

That would be a problem for a lot of us who like Verizon for the reception and want AOSP with it, but the stuff about Verizon being a PITA to consumers and to Google is definitely true.

my problem with VZW is that they are interferring with what the true experience of a Google Nexus device should be... which is completely carrier agnostic... a Nexus imho, be it a CDMA, HSPA, or LTE device, should be UNLOCKED, pure Android with nothing removed (ie. keep Google Wallet), no carrier specific apps, and no blocks on IMEI or ESN... you should be able to take a Nexus device and use it on any carrier you want...

and i hate to say it, but a Nexus should ALWAYS be non-subsidized (that's where the conflict of interest with carriers stems... they feel entitled to put their shit on it if they are subsidizing the device price)... having a carrier subsidize and sell a Nexus device is somewhat of an oxymoron in my book... at that point, it's not really a Nexus, save not having a skin... it's still limited or handicapped in many ways, just like any other carrier "exclusive" phone...

I wonder if we start bombarding Verizon's facebook and twitter feeds with demands for the 2012 Nexus, if maybe - just MAYBE - they'll stock it?

With LTE rolling out on all major carriers, I can only hope & pray that Sammy could tweak the guts a little and toss us Verizonites another bone this year.

Oh, BTW: I know nothing is set in stone yet, but they need to be getting to work on this device really soon...

Samsung reportedly selected to make the next Nexus phone...again

Unlocked and unsubsidized doesn't make sense in the US market. Carriers get away with charging more by subsidizing your phone.... but they don't offer discounted rates if you bring your own. There is no economic reason to NOT get your phone subsidized in the US (aside from not having a contract but most people don't jump carriers because they all use different technologies or frequency bands these days). I'd pay $500 for a Nexus if Verizon would drop my rate $20/mo....

As far as VZW "bloat" on the Nexus, its annoying but not so bad. First of all, you can disable both of them. Second of all, I actually find the My Verizon app to be useful. Then, I recently read this editorial that at least made me less annoyed by it and sort-of understand it from VZW's perspective. Basically, it said that VZW requires these apps for 2 reasons... one to cut down tech support questions and two, for "data usage transparency". VZ Backup assistant means less calls and store visits for people who change phones and can't figure out how to deal with moving contacts (as simple as it is, people really are dumb). My Verizon is their way of giving customers a way to track their data use in the new world of tiered plans. I think its probably smart business by VZW to put this app in the customers' faces so that they aren't faced with lawsuits down the line that people were getting charged overages without knowing they were going over. Also, it apparently allows VZW customers who purchased things previously through Vcast to be able to access their stuff.

So, in the end, I don't like it, but I understand it....and I am glad I have the option to turn them off.

I will not go to another carrier for a Nexus even though vanilla android is very important to me. I will not lose my grandfathered unlimited data until VZW pries it from my cold dead hands.

That said, if VZW does get the next Nexus and it is a Samsung, I will have to think long and hard. While I haven't had any outright problems with my Nexus, I did get better data coverage with the Rezound and haven't ruled out switching back to it now that it has S-OFF.

If the next Nexus is on VZW and is Samsung, I will have to weigh other options, especially if there is a well-supported non-nexus phone out at the same time. This all being dependent also on if it is a Samsung and the data performance remains average and there is another phone with better data handling and can be unlocked and rooted to get rid of the skin. Time will tell.

That said, I kind of get the feeling VZW won't get another Nexus. They have handled it kind of awkwardly so far, but who knows.

If AOKP comes to it, fully functional, I may consider switching back, too. I really don't like the red capacitive buttons, but I do vastly prefer its screen and radios.
