Galaxy Nexus i515 pogo pin desktop dock

I was slobbering all over the place for a Nexus horizontal dock, UNTIL I found Capta:

Capta Tripod Mount SmartPhone and iPhone Holder and Tripod Mount CAPTA

Capta not only makes a great horizontal dock, but a vertical dock, at ANY angle, and it's also a smartphone TRIPOD mount. It's less than half the price of the Samsung dock, it works with virtually ANY smartphone and it lasts forever.

Sure it doesn't have the little pogo pin thing, but do I really need that for $90 or so? Nope. Instead of the dock, I just plug my Nexus in at night and put it on my Capta as a bedside clock while it charges overnight.

Thought you might be interested in an alternative :)

I'm glad I didn't hesitate to buy one for $90 when Samsung had them on their website. I use mine everyday and love it. IMO, $90 well spent. I tried other types of docks but like this one the best. I use it to stream music through computer desktop speakers at work everyday. On 4.04 works perfect.

This actually looks pretty cool, just might order one from Amazon. I'll also look around and see if they do have Verizon compatible 3 pin pogo desktop docks because it does look very intuitive.

Thank you everyone for the reply's

From the linked page:
WARNING: Product NOT compatible with VERIZON edition ’Galaxy NEXUS i515 or Sprint Galaxy Nexus.

I wonder if the dock will fit the VERIZON edition, because the size of both of them aren't that significantly apart

According to Phonearena the width difference is only 0.02 (LTE Galaxy nexus being thicker)

EDIT: I stand corrected, it wont work http://www.expansys-usa.com/ft.aspx?k=253487

I wish there was a 3 pin pogo desktop dock for the verizon galaxy nexus =[

I would not be surprised if the dock Expansys is selling actually ends up working for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus once it is updated to 4.0.4. Expansys tested the Verizon version using 4.0.2 and they experience the same problems as those that purchased the $90 dock from Samsung. Those that bought the $90 dock had issues until they updated to the unofficial 4.0.4.

If you look back at the thread at Desk Stand (landscape dock) not compatible with Verizon i515 - Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus Vehicle Mount Support Forum - Expansys USA you can see that Expansys doesn't understand that the Verizon version does not have an official 4.0.4 OTA update yet. Samsung did not send the docks to Expansys until the GSM version had 4.0.4 available. So Expansys thinks the dock is GSM only. Samsung has kept everyone in the dark, including Expansys.

So my thinking is that the dock Expansys is selling is the same as the $90 dock Samsung sold. Which would mean that it works for both GSM and LTE (Verizon/Sprint) versions as long as you have 4.0.4. The problem is finding someone that is willing to take that risk and try it out. Most of those people already jumped on the $90 dock.

I don't want to buy it from Expansys because my work will buy the dock for me but only if it is sold by Verizon. So I am waiting impatiently for Verizon to send out the 4.0.4 OTA. Hopefully Verizon will sell the dock after that.

Any Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners that have updated to 4.0.4 willing to take the chance and buy from Expansys? Let us know the results if you do. Maybe Sprint Galaxy Nexus owners could convince Expansys to get the Sprint version for testing. Since the Sprint version shipped with 4.0.4 that would show if it is a physical or software issue causing the issues Expansys experienced.

I'm almost positive those expansys docks do not work with the verizon version. The i9250 nexus has a slightly different thickness than the i515 due to the battery/radio. Expansys tested one of those docks (I think car) and confirmed that even though the pins are very close to lining up, they are not a perfect fit and after you plug it in they kind of work their way out.

there's a little q&a section on the expansys site if you scroll down a bit (http://www.expansys-usa.com/ft.aspx?k=253500), and they confirm that with the GSM version at least, the extended battery+cover on a GSM would still fit the GSM desktop dock... now whether a GSM with extended battery & cover are the same thickness as a VZW or Sprint unit, I have no clue (don't the CDMA/LTE versions have a different housing altogether, which is where the thickness problem lies?)...

I'm not sure which dock you are thinking of when you say Expansys tested it. There is no pogo pin car dock available for GSM or LTE yet. Maybe you are thinking of the car mount which has no pogo pins?

The LTE version is thicker but it has been shown that the pogo pin contacts are in the same place. Jerry at Android Central reviewed the $90 desktop dock that was listed as an i515 accessory. He used his GSM Galaxy Nexus and it worked but had the same issues as the Verizon Galaxy Nexus users were experiencing. He confirmed that updating his GSM Galaxy Nexus to 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 (can't remember which) fixed the issues he was having with the dock. So we know that the $90 dock works with both GSM and LTE if they are updated to 4.0.4. The only thing we don't know is if this dock offered by Expansys is actually the same exact product as the $90 dock Samsung briefly sold.

I think these are the ones I was remembering, definitely testing GSM pogo docks with cdma phones:

Using the gsm version in a cdma dock might work better because the gsm version is thinner but trying to squeeze the cdma phone in a gsm dock is a little harder. I REALLY want a car dock but i thought the expansys testing sounded pretty definitive that a cdma phone in a GSM dock does not work.

You might be correct that the GSM phones could fit the LTE docks because they are smaller and maybe it wont work the other way around. I just don't think we have seen evidence that this theory has been properly tested and confirmed.

The info in this link that you are referring to is the same info I mentioned a few posts ago. Expansys tested with a Verizon Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.2, which is known to have issues with the desktop dock. They did mention trouble keeping the phone charging and needing to push down. The thing is, I recall Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners who bought the $90 dock complaining about inconsistent charging. If I am remembering correctly, they had to insert the phone multiple times before seeing the charge indicator.

The info at the second link you post Nexus I9250 accessories NOT compatible with Verizon Nexus i515 - Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus Support Forum - Expansys USA was first found on the Samsung website a long time ago. At that point the only "dock" that was available was the Verizon car mount. I wonder if this is more of a generic response from someone at Samsung that may not really know the situation with the docks. It's confusing how the FAQ says i515 is not compatible with the landscape dock from other countries but then they say the appropriate dock to purchase is the car mount which has no pogo pins.

According to Expansys employee eX-EC who posted at Nexus accessories on hold because of software issue - Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus Vehicle Mount Support Forum (Page 3) - Expansys USA the car dock is coming at the end of May. Hopefully we wont have to wait that long if Verizon can get the 4.0.4 OTA to us sooner.

Agreed. Would be nice to get a more definitive answer one way or another but I think most people have waited so long now that they are just going wait out the official CDMA docks. Now we just need Samsung/Google/Verizon to get their crap together so an update can be pushed and they can start selling the docks again.

Do you know if it works with the extended battery? I have not seen anywhere confirm this. Thanks.
