Help what is the difference between honeycomb and ice cream sandwich?

Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) the latest version of Android. Gingerbread (2.4) is the last version for phones and Honeycomb (3.2) was developed strictly for tablets and never released as source code. ICS unifies Android into a single OS for both tablets and phones and contains the latest and greatest features, whistles, bells and other fancy whizbang stuff. Most people who come to the forums are technoholics and can't wait to get their geeky little paws on the newest thing (myself included). For the majority of folks with Android devices, as long as their phone or tablet works without too many problems it's a non-issue.

Honeycomb has a lot of stuff earlier versions didn't- to take advantage of the bigger screen.

Problem is, if you wan to make a new seat cover for cars- would you want to make one shape or 10?
--App developers have to make sure their stuff works for many different "flavors" of android, as well as different devices.

ICS will make it much easier for the App developers to build.
Also ICS takes some of the things learned on honeycomb and Gingerbread and combines them together. It gets good reviews from most testers so far.

We wont see as much of a "surface" change coming from Honeycomb like those with phones coming from Gingerbread will see with ICS. ICS "looks" a lot like Honeycomb with a few exceptions. The ability to remove entries from the recent apps list, the ability to create homescreen folders on the fly, and the updated settings menus. There are optimizations in the OS that will be advantageous to us, but those are not visibly obvious. All that being said....I can't wait!

It looks like ICS will come to the tf101 in early Feb. A bit later than anticipated but still good. There should be performance updates as well as some good touches. I used ICS for a few hours on my tf prime before I returned it. Meemoo752 why did you buy the tf as opposed to the tf prime. (Gingerbread is 2.3 not 2.4 as stated on an earlier post sorry I think I suffer from ocd) If you are interested the next version is rumoured to being called jellybean!

Hi Gav,
My neighbor showed me his TF101 last year, round spring time, and I just had to have one!! I had no idea the Prime was about to be released soon afterwards. That being said, I'm not disappointed with my TF101 at all. It has served me well as I am a nurse educator and take it with me everywhere...even in the classroom!! There is still a lot to learn about it (don't think I'll ever be the "geek" like some of these techies on here), but I have learned an awful lot about how this contraption works....right now, my issue is Splashtop and how to gain access to my laptop sitting at home with all my files on it...any suggestions?

Hi oh ok. Yes the TF101 is a good tablet but is a little slow sometimes. Maybe ICS will speed this up. It is a duel core so it should be ok.

Splash top is pre-loaded on the TF101. Go here Download page for FREE Splashtop Streamer for Windows or Mac and download the streamer to your PC. Set this up on your pc and add a password also sound can be sent to the TF101 make sure you select this option. It is very easy. Then as long as your PC and TF101 are on the same network or both connected to the internet (to allow remote access) you are good to go.

Make sure your PC is turned on or it will not work. I dont think this will work if your PC goes to sleep i have never tried. Make sure splahtop is running on the pc. Then on the TF101 select the My Cloud app then my desktop on the left of the screen then select start to scan all available devices . That is it you should connect.

Make sure that splashtop is enabled on your pc and it is turned on. You can set it so that splashtop is always on but this will effect the resolution that your pc will display at. After you have connected you may have to re-set your resolution on your desk top. This can be a pain but not difficult.

That is it. Hope it works let me know.

Regards.

Hi Gav,

Thanks very much for your help. I've been able to figure it out. I did not realize how many places I needed to sign into but after a bit of exploring discovered what I needed to do to get it to work. Have you used it much? It seems to be very slow when I try to open up a document on my laptop...and the resolution- well that was a bit annoying, but I finally figured that out too. It is a handy app while away from my laptop!!
