What's a worthy replacement?

I've ordered a new battery for my Desire, as I don't expect to retire it just yet, but have started taking interest in what's coming (which is a bad sign).

The S3 looks like a nice alternative to the One X - about the same width, I suspect the X has the better screen but removable battery and sd slot trump that. The Ascend D Quad should have a sharper screen and slightly more friendly size, and I'm still guessing it'll be cheaper. But the proof is always in the execution rather than the specs, so an waiting to see the real things first...

All I can say is I am dropping onto a monthly "Simplicity" contract for now. I will then see what teh ascend d quad has to offer and make a decision then.

I feel like I'm in good company. :D
I'm even prepared to wait it out a few months until the deals sort themselves out too.

I'm happy to wait for the ascend. I love getting the latest and greatest tech and I am usually impatient. That said, its possible the ascend will make the One x and SGS 3 look like black plastic moulded pieces of turd so to avoid my pocket smelling, I'd prefer to wait.

It may be that pocket turd is indeed better. I'd just hate to fill it first and find out later I was too impatient.

The biggest issue right now, though, is that my Desire is overheating (yet again) and consequently rebooting/freezing at least once a day. So off for a new mainboard, for the third time, before my two years are up...

PVT1 sucks!
That is really unlucky! Mine is also PVT1, and so far has had no problems...

...and if it's going to do that, I'd appreciate it if it waited until July (out of warranty then, so would have to upgrade ;)).

I don't think the Ascend or S3 are going to be bad phones, they both look promising. I've been out of contract since last Oct but nothing has interested me until the S3 came along. It could have been a more difficult choice had they both been released at the same time but I think more people are going to opt for the Samsung as it got there first. Still I see the Ascend building up quite a following as well. At least there are now some choices as I was getting a little worried when the only option seemed to be a One X with a sealed battery and no sd.

Just been giving the Ascend one last going over, and after comparing the two, I'm afraid the GS3 trumps it in a number of departments that are very important to me.

So I think the choice has finally been made. Sad to think I'll be leaving this awesome forum, and group of people in a few weeks.

Would you mind sharing those decisive differences? Just interested how your reasoning goes, as my mind is far from made up.

Of course.

For me Theres three main reasons.
1. Screen size. Looking forward to a screen thats a nice big size. 4.8"sounds like a sweet size.

2. Internal memory. 8 gig is pants compared to the 32 gig you can hey in the S3. Won't need an sd card for a while.
Finally battery.
The S3 tops the ascend by quite a bit..... Apart from the XL.

I would love to see some footage of games playing on the S3 though.

Yes its funny how people differ. These are reasons for me NOT to get the SGS3.

1) as much as I would like a huuuuge screen, I am not very tall and my fingers are relative. Much over 4.3" would be too hard for me to manage. Sure its 5mm from 4.3 to 4.5, but its 7.5mm to 4.8" Thats a step too far for me.

2) I already have a memory card. I don't want to pay the premium prices for NAND that I won't need. I can take my media out and put things on it a number of ways that are better than USB 2.0, including a direct interface onto my motherboard

3) The battery isn't as big as the XL's. Huawei have invented voodoo-like battery saving technology too.

4) I'll see 4 SGS3's on the bus to my 1 ascend :)

5) The Exynos 1.4 CPU is based on ancient ARM A9 architecture. I cant even imagine it being better than the 1.5 in the One X. The US SGS3 with dual code S4 will probably be better than the Exynos

It all just seems a bit "too little, too late". I think the One X probably will have the bigger share of the Market out of the 3. Perhaps not? Who knows. There is just nothing that calls me to the SGS3.
