(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

Sorry but that's not correct. You register your device say motorola because there awesome. They send out a email asking you to fill out a survey then they go through and pick out testers. And the os we are testing is pretty much final. You test it a few days report to there private forums with any bugs once testing is complete they look over the results if there isn't a major snafu then in a couple days the os is released to the masses. This how I've been testing new os for my motorola droids all the way back to the original droid. Sorry but no way would vzw release a update in a uncontrolled environment the risk are to high.

Yes, Motorola does do their own testing, I know because I too was invited to be included numerous times 'back in the day' - but couldn't participate b/c I was rooted and running custom ROMs. But I don't see how the fact that manufacturers do their own testing leads you to believe the carriers aren't testing as well?

Its OK for Motorola to roll out a test to an "uncontrolled environment" but not Verizon? What are the risks? Someone's phone doesn't work? They send them a new one or have them roll back the update. Same as Moto would do.

Quite frankly, rolling out a soak test makes sense. As a carrier, testing an update on a few dozen devices internally doesn't compare to testing it on several thousand consumer devices. Obviously, they aren't rolling out a beta test, they are fairly confident its solid or they wouldn't roll it to customers. You really think a company like Verizon would just roll the dice and push an update to a million phones based solely on tests of a few dozen internal devices?

Anyway, you can argue all you want, but the fact that there are VZW screenshots showing test periods being posted on Reddit by a VZW employee.... granted its an anonymous poster on reddit - but his info has been legit so far.... and who specifically explains what a VZW 'soak test' entails.... I'm going to stick with my story.

Just thought I would let everyone know about this possible ground breaking event. I work across from a Verizon tower and I was up on our silo roof which is about 170' in the air. I noticed that the airplane beacon up there was actually morse code and it was spelling out N-e-x-u-s.

I believe this is a good sign!

Just spoke to a Verizon Wireless tech rep. He said to expect the update next month. I'm getting really tired of waiting.

I've been reading crap like this since January. The beginning of every month starts off exactly the same. Some guy talks to some kind of rep that tells him the update is coming "next month". I don't know if I should laugh or cry at these ridiculous update posts.

I don't think I would really care about an update (luckily I have a working Nexus...wouldn't mind the better radios and supposed battery life from the update) but the fact the GSM got their update a couple of weeks ago and other phones are getting upgrades to ICS with a higher update then VZW is really starting to bug me. I love the fact that this is about as pure a Google phone as you can get on VZW, but it seems Big Red has never really had a big support for this phone. I never saw any advertising from Verizon, they really don't seem to push the phone and now it seems they really are taking their sweet time on this update.

That's my rant!!!! I still would not trade this phone though for anything else out on the market!!!!

It doesn't fix it I've learned to use my bt .

Not exactly true. Samsung has supposedly identified the problem and is going to be sending out a patch to fix the issue. I've been hearing that for a long time, and from multiple sources (Verizon and forum members). I've always assumed the Samsung update and the Google update will be rolled up into one installer package. Not sure how they plan to do it. Fingers are crossed.

I think that they might be holding the update until my birthday....5-27......lol.....I can only hope and dream that Verizon will give us an update by Memorial Day / the end of May.....

At this point I am wondering whether VZW is holding it for any reason besides they like to delay things. Based on a lot of users who manually installed the update reporting no improvements, I'm wondering if this version just wasn't fixing things as expected and that's why they haven't released it? I mean, it doesn't break anything, so even if its not a total fix why not release it?

At this point it simply doesn't make sense why they haven't. Even for Verizon this is ridiculously long to "test" a release.
