Facebook Push Notification Fix. Try these simple steps!

It is working now! At least for some things.

I have noticed that it works for comments on wall post or if someone post to your wall.

It does not work if you have notifications for when "close friends" update their status. You get no push notification for that. I'll report back with other notifications that do and do not get pushed as I notice them.

Anyways glad to finally have some push notifications on Android!!

Did you subscribed to those friends statuses? Nonetheless, I'm happy that it works for you. There are thousands of Androiders who would love to know that there is a way for "push notification" to be sent to their Android devices and I'm hoping that many will see this thread.

Yeah I have a couple I am subscribed to, I get notifications, just not pushed to my phone.

I wish Facebook would just update their app to give us push notifications without needing a blackberry, but at least this works

I think this is a limitation in the app itself and not specifically the push notifications. If you notice, in the app if you click the globe thingy to see your notifications, it doesn't show close friend updates there either.

Ok, so I'm not receiving push notifications either, but I'm wondering if mine is stemming from another problem.

I hate getting email notifications so I have a lot of those unchecked under notifications tab, but does this also affect push notifications? I feel like now I have to choose between being bombarded with emails and get push notifications on my phone or no email and no push. :(

I use FriendCaster Pro for notifications. It basically reads your emails that are sent from Facebook and then deletes them and then notifies you that there are Facebook updates. I find this to be a satisfactory way of getting push notifications. When I get a Facebook update, I get an email. FriendCaster sees this email, plays the Facebook notification sound and then deletes the email. This way, my inbox is always clear of Facebook emails.

Sounds good, but I just prefer the 'facebook for Android app' over any other.

I have tried this (using BB emulator) and it didn't work for me :( I am on a rooted ICS stock rom. I don't know if that may be the reason. I think I will odin back to GB to see if that will fix the problem....
I'm not sure if that's the problem.. If you have follow the steps correctly and it doen't work for you - I don't know what to tell you. Maybe a second time around might just work for you.

Well, it worked for me -- ICS FC15 - SGS2; however, Likes still don't come through and that's the only reason I don't use the Facebook app for notifications. Still going to stick with MB Notifications for now.

Also, there is a weird side effect where I will get old notifications as if they are new if someone deletes a post he or she just made in the same thread.

Edit: P.S. I used the BB emu version 7.1.0.98 (9900).

For folks not being able to get this to work, the next time you are with a friend with an iOS device or a blackberry, just ask if you can use their phone to sign into your facebook. All you have to do is sign in and sign out. It has worked fine for me and the many otber friends of mine that I have done this for.

Idem here.

But I notice I don't receive mails for likes either. While FB says it does sent email notifications if someone likes my post. Maybe this is more a bug in FB itself then the FB app?

Do iPhone and BB users receive notifications for likes?

I think the likes notifications are sporadic. Sometimes I get them email and sometimes I don't. Sometimes i get a push notification in the app and sometimes i dont. They show up in my notifications within the app, but I don't always get a notification in the notification bar.

I've noticed lately that since the latest change of the notification icon (not the one we now have, the one before that looks like a square box or envelope) I haven't been getting notification as accurate as before.

I guess it's time to do the process all over again. Clearing data from the FB app and/or uninstall and reinstall the application doesn't seem to be of much help anymore. Nevertheless, it is still a lot better than waiting to be notified by email. :)

I found something interesting as a side effect to completely REMOVING the default HTC Sense launcher from my phone (you must be rooted to do this). I replaced it with Go Launcher EX as a system app. Once Sense was removed, FB push notifications magically worked. I don't use push notifications, but I thought it was worth mentioning in here.

For whatever reason, removing Sense let Push Notifications through.

I never get notifications for likes, that is the only thing that kind of sucks

Sense tends to make a lot of things not work right. I will NEVER have a phone with Sense.
