You also limited to the amount you can upload at once, which is why I prefer Drop IMO

Dropbox is also another alternative to backing up essential things from your SD card. Box.net is also good, and I think they still have their promotion for 50GB of free storage on Box for Android users. But you're limited to 10 GB bandwidth a month.

Quick question...is it best to do a factory rest before such a big upgrade? I think I want to start clean :)

If so what do in have to "dial" to do that? I have my MSL number.

Thanks for any help! Getting excited!!!

You can do it before the update, but I do mine after, probably mostly by habit. That way I know anything dirty is cleaned up.

Here are some strategies.

Backup - if you don't feel you need MyBackup Pro, then confirm your Google contacts, either as mentioned above, or by checking on the web under your Gmail account. Double check the calendar stuff while you're there.

To save time, you can backup your apps using Astro File Manager - it won't save data, just apps. As alternatives, check the Play Store on the web to see if it has an accurate record of your apps - or get an account at AppBrain.com (free), that will make a list of your apps and assist in restoring later (great service, totally legal).

Don't sweat your paid apps if any of this confuses you - your paid apps are logged to your Gmail account - you will get them back.

You can use SMS Backup+ (free) to backup texts. I've used the one by Jan Berkel, hopefully he's kept the quality up - people have told me recently that they liked it when I recommended it.

Now, backup your sd card. On my PC, under my documents area, I have a folder called "sdcard" - make a new folder with the date of the backup. Go into that dated backup (for today, I would call mine 20120507 because that's me, and it sorts well, but however you like) - then plug in the phone, copy and paste your whole sd card into that date-named folder. (Erase the LOST.DIR folder from your PC after the copy. You don't need it, it's from the operating system.) Remember to have PC file browser set to show hidden files and directories (they start with a dot in the name), get those, too.

PS - I've done this so long that it's second nature to me.

Meaning - if what I just thundered out on the old keyboard is unclear, it's not you, it's me! ;) :p Just ask if I was confusing, and accept apologies in advance. :)

To reset, it's pretty simple - homescreens, menu, setup, SD & phone storage, Factory data reset - and do not check option to wipe out your sd card. (and if you forget, you have a backup)

That's it. :)

I just checked and noticed that EStrongs File Explorer also has an app backup feature. :)

Remember to backup your sd card as your last backup step. ;)

I think I've been using ES File Explorer for about 9 months now and I completely missed that feature. I swear ESFE is the second most necessary app in Android. The first one being the App launcher needed to simply be able to launch ESFE.

I use ESFE to sync with all my cloud storages as it's streamlined. The official Dropbox app doesn't allow you to download files that you don't have a file association with (last I checked), and I have my box account associated with it, too.

Today Sprint announced that the EVO V 4G (an EVO 3D) would be available on Virgin, and the EVO Design 4G would be available on Boost. Both are launching with Android 4 (ICS). So that would make me think that ICS should be available for our EVO 3D anytime now, right? Whatta you guys think?

In case you haven't read posts back...Some people are already running the ICS that is coming with the VM version of the 3D and it is working with no real flaws to speak of (besides having the VM splash screen) Which is a very good sign, but the Sprint version is still no where to be seen (besides a french ad for the EVO3D(GSM) getting its ICS update scheduled for the last week of May.)

But yes, it is a good sign that we should be getting it soon....hopefully:cool:

This vindicates what many of us have said in this thread and the still-happy thread -

- the 3vo is still a worthy, not obsolete phone

- yes, there is a shift to LTE, so it makes sense that Sprint is focusing on that

- HTC has never gone back on their word to support the 3vo

- Sprint didn't play Evo users over Gingerbread to sell 3vos, and they won't play 3vo owners over ICS to sell LTEvos

I find the news from the French site and the VM leak to be perhaps more than coincidental.

Sprint believes in customer retention - a lot. ;) :)

You have to be the most positive Sprint customer I know.

I can live with my phone honestly for another year or two. I just want an upgrade. The only part of this ICS issue that bothers me is that android, hardware maker, and cell provider can't work together to do things faster and not leave everyone to guess when the upgrade is coming. I don't know if they do this for revenue reasons or because of a poor business model.

I hope earlymon is right though because I am not buying an lte phone when I have wimax so I will be keeping this one until lte reaches Columbus Ohio

I don't see this feature. All I could find on the net was to go to /system/app folder, select all and copy to SD card. Is that what you mean and is that all I have to back up besides my SD card at the end?

Open ESFE, push menu, tap Manager, select App Manager.

Then turn on multi select and select the apps you want to backup then long push on them and select backup. They are stored in /sdcard/backup

I'm just about sick with anticipating of when we will see an update for our phones. Sprint don't know and HtC don't know either, according to both.

Also, how long after getting this update, will we be able to still have Sprint's Wimax service?

2015 is when they suspect to be closing down WiMAX, at least on Sprint. I imagine that Virgin and Boost will keep it.

You think Virgin and Boost will keep Wimax? If they do for how long? Its got to be costing Sprint money to keep both Wimax and LTE up.

No, I don't think they will. I am just mostly doing some idle speculation about how VM/Boost are getting some high end (although year+ old) devices and 4G for the low end market. The Evo 3D is still a remarkable device, and I wouldn't trade it for most (if not all) of the phones currently carried by VM/Boost. It just made me wonder, out loud, about how this might influence more people to utilize these services instead of services like straight talk to the point where wimax can break even.
