Build Quality, reception, and stock ICS?

Ok I've been going back and forth between the Razr Maxx, G Nexus, and Rezound. Motorola is known for their build quality and exception reception and of course the Maxx has great battery life but the locked bootloader and extremely slow updates sours it a lot for me. The Galaxy Nexus is getting great reviews but all the complaints about signal issues and poor reception have made me just about nix that from consideration.

So the Rezound, how is the signal strength....if you had a Droid Razr and switch the the Rezound are you happy? What about build quality I have a DroidX now no case and no screen protector in my pocket with my keys and it's pristine with not even a minor scratch. I've read that HTC didn't used "cheap" glass on the Rezound to save money but another review I read said it has gorilla glass I can't find any concrete information that this not a deal breaker I'll get a screen protector but it would be nice to know just how careful I have to be with it in terms of sticking it in my pocket with other items. I know this has the weakest battery life of the 3 but I'm hoping at least it's as good as the DroidX I'm a fairly heavy user I go barely make it home after 12-14hrs using up 2 standard batteries down 5-10% which is fine I don't mind swapping out. Finally, I want a stock ICS is there a 100% working senseless ICS rom? Thanks

Coming from AT&T a month ago, I bought the Droid 4. The signal quality was a 9/10 but that was all I really liked about it. I returned it for the Rezound. I'd give the signal quality an 8/10. Keep in mind the Razr Maxx doesn't have a removable battery. I played around the Galaxy Nexus and I didn't care for it.

If you get the Rezound, buy the extended battery. It's a must have if you're a heavy user.

I came from a HTC Eris and I beat the crap out of that little phone and it held up great. I upgraded to the Moto Droid Bionic and loved the reception, but took the phone back after only 6 days because I didn't like the size and feel. I went with the Rezound because the size was a bit smaller and I really liked the feel. I'm glad I did. The reception isn't what the Moto was. Like the previous poster said 9/10, 8/10. Thats about the way I would rate it as well. You gotta love the Beats audio as well. The glass is gorilla glass, at least that's what big red told me. It's tough, I have an otter box on mine, but it's not the big one so the screen is exposed. I keep it in my pocket and have yet to have any problems with it. All in all, I don't think you can go wrong with the Rezound. Just wish the update would hurry up.

just FYI the screen is not glass its plastic ... you really need a screen protector for the rezound if you dont want it to get scratched

yeah I just trade my Galaxy nexus for a HTC Rezound last night the Nexus does have signal issues, here at work I would barley have one bar to no service with the nexus and now with the Rezound I have 3 bars most of the time and I can actually make a call

I don't know if it is plastic or not, but I've carried mine in my pocket uncovered for six months and don't have any scratches. I actually put a Zagg on it at first but didn't like the way it felt (it dragged pulling it out of my pocket) so I pulled it off.

I also go caseless unless I am traveling and then I use the case with the pull out stand so I can prop it up to watch videos on the plane. I know some people have b***ched about the size of this phone, but I think, without a case, it is perfect.

I also skipped on the extended battery and carry a second regular one. This is just me being fussy about the added bulk. I have a car charger and a second one at my desk so I'm always plugging it in anyway.

Apparently the signal strength indicator on the Nexus is wrong and doesn't reflex the actual strength and is being fixed with the next update. The issue I was concerned with was 4g reception when u had the one bar was at at least 4g?

My brother also has the GNex and my Rezound consistently gets a better signal on both 4G and 3G. It comes at a cost, though. If you're in a weak signal area, the Rezound will eat up a battery quickly in order to give you a good connection.

Oh, and there is a 100% working ICS ROM, for sure. I'm using CleanROM, which is Sense 3.6 but I use Nova Launcher anyway, and get to keep the nifty Sense lockscreen and Camera.

that was 3g, no 4g in my area, but if its just the indicator that`s showing the wrong signal strength, why couldn`t I make a simple phone call or even text I had problems with a text going through. :rolleyes:

the rezound I have, has no problem at all with calls, and texts

In my experience, the glass is the weakest thing about this phone... On my first Rez I SET it on the counter and came back 10 mins later and it had a stress crack!!! :thinking:

This was only 6-7 days of having the phone. I tried taking it back and explaining but they said there was no way of knowing if I have done something to damage it... Fine, whatever! :mad:

So, I eventually made an insurance claim and now on the "new" one after less than 2 months it has some tiny scratches at the bottom of the screen where I swipe up to unlock and hit the home, menu, etc. keys. Other than that, the phone is superb!!

Ah thanks for your responses, what a tough decision! With the upcoming changes with Verizon's unlimited policy I have a feeling this next device is going to have to last longer then the usual 18-24months between upgrades. Doing more research the Razr is a fast phone by all respects even with the lower clock speed and even though the rezound has a higher resolution the colors/blacks/brightness all look better on the Razr IMO. But still the whole boot loader thing pisses me off. I'm going to wait it out for awhile longer see what the Incredible LTE has to offer and maybe the Galaxy S3. I expect Verizon will announce when the change in policy will be occurring at least a couple week in advance to give everyone that is eligible to upgrade one last chance at getting a subsidized price and still keep unlimited.

I have a RAZR and Rezound. Had a g nex.

As far as reception... I give the edge to my RAZR.

Where the RAZR and Rezound do better than the g nex is in weaker reception areas. But overall....it was a toss up with my g nex and Rezound for which one had the more annoying reception issues.

My Rezound gets stuck in 1x or no data in weaker areas. My g nex never did that. My g nex just never saw 4g in weaker areas that my RAZR and Rezound did.

this is just my opinion ..... but the rezound is prob. still the best phone on the market. Mine is running custom rom etc. but even stock i think the rezound is going to be hard to beat .. i would put a rezound up against any phone out there : )
