Downloading Apps after Updating ROM

Now we all know how frustrating it is to have to backup and restore all your data on your phone for the rare time you have to update the rom, do a factory reset, etc.

I recently had to do a factory reset. I've lost all my call logs - I can live with that. I don't have my sms' on my phone anymore - I can live with that. I have lost all my apps - which is okay BUT what really annoys me is that some apps seem to have disappeared from the market. I found the perfect sticky note widget after trying out dozens of others and now it's gone from my phone and from the market. Same goes for the Skype beta app. What can I do to get these Apps back (especially one entitled 'sticky memo widget lite')? thanks.

I had this problem on my UK T-Mobile G2 Touch. Seems T-Mobile also had similar problems to Orange, and shipped loads of phones with unsigned ROMS.

Worse still, they have a signed version on their website for download, that has the exact same version number, but is clearly different (i.e. it has a digital signature). Naughty Naughty.....

There was a Google forum full of disgruntled Orange customers (like me) who suffered this problem after a recent Orange ROM upgrade (no, neither 2.0 nor 2.1). A lot of people complained to HTC - because the upgrade was downloadable from its website - and to Orange and to Google.

After it was sorted and most people had stopped checking the threads, I noticed that a Google bod popped up to say he was glad it was sorted but should it happen again then people should complain to their carrier.

I must admit that the only reason I was late catching on to the "return to normal" was that I'd been abroad for a bit. Anyhow, it's all sorted now on Orange but possibly not on ROM upgrades from other carriers....

Maybe I wasn't clear in my original post because this has nothing to do with my phone network or htc or paid apps. What I'm complaining about is:
-Losing all my installed apps when I have to update my ROM
-Some apps have disappeared from the Android Marketplace so I can't download some of the apps I previously had, e.g. the 'sticky memo widget lite' app, 'skype beta' app

Is there anyway for me to get the 'sticky memo widget lite' app now?

For the sticky memo thing, here is their website and an explanation of why it's no longer on the Market...

Maybe you can contact the dev to ask for the old apk?

For Skype Lite, it won't be back. Skype have pulled it and will be disabling it for users that still have it installed in the near future.
