Root Boot looping when unplugging usb or swapping batteries

Non-Revolutionary root S-off hboot 1.04

It's been awhile since I've posted, my TB has been running like a champ for months now on Liquid 3.1. However, I ran into a problem yesterday where as the title says, unplugging the usb or swapping the battery for another battery *sometimes* causes a boot loop. I can get into hboot and reboot from there but it continues to loop, same thing if I try getting into recovery. I can get out of boot loop by trying battery pulls, taking the SIM and SD out, plugging the usb back in. Some combination of those or blind luck will get me out of the boot loop after some persistence and seems random.

I believe there's some hardware issue and not software, but I'm not too sure of what I should do since most of the boot looping I've seen on google is a software issue. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

i wonder if your issue may be becasue of some mismatched firmware? if youve been running custom roms, and updating just the radios as new ones come out, there are other bits of fimrware in there that may be very old

heres what id try:
1)flash shadowmites patched hboot. its newer than the eng 1.04.2000 hboot that youre running, and it will protect itself from being overwritten. (http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...ries-hboot-updated-1-25-12-a.html#post3104987 )
2)make a backup
3)run the most current .exe ( currently FileFactory Premium i have not seen one for 2.11.605.19 yet ) dont worry, with shadowmites hboot youll stay soff
4)reinstall whatever recovery you run
5)restore your backup,or even do a fresh install of your rom.

hopefully that will help :)

Thanks for the reply scotty.

I actually haven't updated my radios in a long time I'm on 1.48.00.0930w 0.01.78.0916w_3. I'm almost positive I flashed shadowmite's way back when as well, but I'm not sure how to check that?

This afternoon I downloaded the .exe [ROM]Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.12.605.6_Radio_1.16.00.0223r_N V_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release - xda-developers since I saw that in your return to stock/unroot thread. I haven't flashed it yet but will that work as well?

I'll be able to test if returning to stock fixes this as a battery pull 100% of the time results in boot looping.

I've done a lot of googling and other people have had the unplugging problem and there never seems to be a resolution to the threads. Pretty sure this is a hardware problem, but I want to return to stock and unroot for the purposes of taking it back to the vzw store.

wow that is a really old ruu, lol. it actually took you a few steps backwards in radios. if youre happy with the performance no harm in staying there if it fixes your bootloops, but id prolly give it a few days, and then try running the newest one,to get the most current radios, ifn it were me :)

ill keep my fingers crossed for ya :)

Yup had to grab my radios again from the sticky here hah. I will definitely flash the new ruu soon, it's just that file factory must be the slowest download site ever and I didn't want to wait anymore. Really appreciate the help scotty! I'm glad you're still on these forums hah. Are you even using your TB anymore?

EDIT: Well it just boot looped on me when I unplugged it from the charger. I'm going to flash a newer RUU and just use that for a couple of days. I have the 605.9.exe from the link you gave me so I'll try that first.

Edit 2: Found a zip of 605.19 http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...t-no-its-not-ics-but-it-does-fix-some-things/. That should work just like the old 605.6 I flashed right?

Also did you see this scotty? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639830

Well flashed 605.19 but anytime I try to get into recovery it boot loops... I'm not sure whether this is related to the original boot looping.

EDIT: Seems to be any reboot causes it to boot loop now. I will probably just unroot and take it to the store. Any chance they'll just hand me a replacement and let me keep the SD card?

Also did you see this scotty? [Tool][Windows]Thunderbolt Auto-Unrooter - xda-developers

i actually havent used it for awhile. since getting my rezound, and my sensation,im pretty fixated on ICS,lol. as soon as the TB starts getting ICS leaks,and/or functional cm9 ill dust it off. dont worry,i havent forgot about him- i have a special fondess for the TB since i got it on release day and have been posting here since page 1 :)

yes,i have seen the auto unrooter. hes posted it in my unroot thread on XDA. if folks wish to use that, they can. i keep the files up to date in case others prefer the manual method,or the took doesnt work for them

have you tried any .exe files? id like to see you run one of them before completely throwing in the towel.

on your last question, the stores seldom have any refurbs to hand out, they will likely have to order it in for you. i would prolly just call them and save yourself the agravation of dealing with the store ;) if youve had other issues, you may try and make enuff noise that they go ahead and let you upgrade to the rezound :D

I would have liked to try an .exe but my phone can barely connect to my pc at this point. It'll suddenly disconnect itself, reboot and I have to start the whole process over again. It took me 40 min of restarting it to get to connect the first time for the auto unroot tool today and then it disconnected and boot looped. Luckily the step it was on was just removing the PG05IMG.zip. I also can't enable USB debugging anymore without it boot looping immediately when I check the box so I'm stuck in that regard.

The vzw store is only a couple blocks from my house so I'm going to try that out tomorrow and see what they tell me. If I'm SOL then I'd consider looking at craigslist for a TB or possibly rezound.

oooh, gotcha. i hadnt realized it was that bad. unfortunately id tend to agree with you... sure looks like failed hadrware. does the phone reboot in fastboot as well? you can run an RUU with the phone in fastboot.

if they wont do anything for you, i see used TBs around here in the $100-$150 range pretty often, and rezounds in the $200-$250 range. should be able to scrounge one up for $200 or less if your patient, and willing to drive a lil ;)

Well, went to the store and sure enough they couldn't do anything about it since my phone is out of warranty. I have an upgrade available which I didn't even realize so looks like I'll be picking up a new android. Sorry to see my TB go :(.

I guess my choices are the Rezound, Razr Maxx or Galaxy Nexus. The Razr Maxx is a huge phone but a 3300mAh battery is insane!! A pity that my 3 TB batteries will go to waste even if I get the Rezound (apparently TB batts don't work in it despite the vice versa).

they do work to power the phone, but they dont tell you the battery charge or temp  so they work, but they dont, lol. id say get the rezound, but my opinion may be biased ;) :D the inc 4g is coming out soon as well. :)

The thing I'll miss the most is the kickstand as silly as that sounds ha. I do a lot of reading or netflixing so it was great. After some more research I'm pretty much set on the Razr Maxx. I don't care about Blur or Sense because of rooting or even just using Go Launcher. In the end the crazy battery life of the Maxx wins out for me over the Rezound. If the Maxx wasn't out I would have done the same thing as you and get the Rezound for sure.

Just posting one last update. So I ended up getting the Razr Maxx and traded in my thoroughly boot looped(I would almost say bricked at that point) TB for a $75 credit! The Maxx comes with a 16gb SD card but I just popped in my 32gb from my TB. The store rep didn't put much effort into trying any debugging and because the USB port has become a bit flimsy thought it just couldn't be charged anymore. Without saying I was ever rooted (he never even checked the bootloader for S-ON) I explained what I had tried, but since it was out of warranty they couldn't do anything anyways.

As for my Razr Maxx I'm loving it! It's big but super slim which is different and I do miss my TB kickstand . Battery life is insane and I'm running it stock right now until the ICS OTA which should be coming up. I keep 4G on all day with heavy usage no problem.
The locked bootloader has made me hesitant to start messing around but I know I'll get bored of stock soon enough :p.

As for my thoughts on what happened with my TB I believe it was just the result of heavy use for over a year. It has taken light falls (desk to floor while charging) which made the usb port loose but still worked for charging and USB transfers. The light falls may have loosened over time some power-related connections within the phone. I would use 4G tethering for up to an hour at time which caused my TB to reach a pretty high temp. I used after market batteries, not often but as a backup. Who knows if any of these caused my TB to fail, but it certainly seemed to be a hardware and not software problem. My TB was an awesome first smartphone and got a good run out of it.

For Google SEO: thunderbolt power boot loop, unplug boot loop, unplugging usb causes bootlooping, removing battery bootloop, when I disconnect my thunderbolt it bootloops, boot loop hardware problem issue
