I just got the ICS OTA update today. I was running an unrooted tab and the update was smooth and painless. While I don't have a lot of apps, the ones that I do continue to work without any problems. I noticed some improvements...for example...the keyboard - stock - seems much better. Typing is much easier. Earlier, I used to experience a lot of lag...second, I do like the fonts...wifi reception feels better...will have to test it out...battery...,don't know yet...I hope it improves - at least marginally.

That's all for now. Cheers.

EDIT: One other good thing...I get to use Chrome!

I noticed something interesting over the last few days since I got the ICS OTA update. Yes, ICS was slick etc., but I also found that the Gmail app was misbehaving and other apps (mostly games) not working. I should mention though that I had no issues with either the download or wifi reception, rotating screen etc. Also, my A500 was updated to HC 3.2.1 and was unrooted when ICS got pushed to my tab.

Reading some posts here I found that some of the folks suggested doing a factory reset to get (almost) everything right with ICS and the A500. I too was considering doing the reset, but was too lazy. Now I notice that somehow ICS and the A500 have settled down. The flickering of the Gmail app (and the Calendar app), random FCs etc have all but disappeared. Gmail appears to be rock solid.

I must say that I am liking ICS and using Chrome is convenient - especially with the bookmarks etc. I also find that ICS is indeed smoother - it is kind of buttery rather than being silken. The only thing that I find lacking relative to my usage is a very high quality Office Suite. If I can get that then I would probably stay on Android - especially since I have enjoyed using my Android phone (though it still runs the last updated version of GB). This seems unlikely though - even Polaris which is supposed to be a good Office Suite is just not as good as Office and this may be the only reason why I may switch to Win 8 (phone+tab) when I am up for an upgrade.

All this being said though, I am enjoying using the tab with ICS!

Have you updated the Iconia tab update enhancement app in the play store? I did that and got it immediately.

Yup, you bet.

I got that Update Enhancement about a month or more ago, and have updated it at least once, which was about a week ago. No luck.

It's the first thing I check now, then the actual update but apparently my device is "up to date" :dontknow:

We always get the leftovers when it comes to tech in B.C. , I swear. Probably doesn't help being WAY up north if they are doing it by region or largest consumer base first.

I got my ICS first day it was available. Went through all the hoops to get it working. Now, a month later I want to go back to Gingerbread!!! Not sure any of you noticed but ICS takes up prety much all available space on your Hard drive. Mine keeps telling me I don't have any drive space left to do app updates and I keep removing apps to get space back and it keeps telling me I'm out of space. As soon as I can figure out how I am going back to Gingerbread and they can have their ICS and stick it where it ain't gonna feel good. I tried to get help from Acer and got the run around and got told it would cost me $199.95 for tech help. Screw Acer and their tech help. I have several Acer products. MY PC at the house turned out to be garbage and now my tablet has tanked. Only thing I have still right in my laptop nd even it's trying to go south. Last time Acer, you've lost a buyer who has been buying Acer for years and now is sorry to admit it.

You mean Honeycomb, specifically v 3.2.1...yes? I thought it is not possible to upgrade from GB to ICS.

ICS only uses about 4GB of storage space on a 32GB a500. It uses about 2.5GB on my 8GB a100. It apparently uses closer to 3GB on a 16GB device. That space is reserved by the OS configuration, and it can use no more than that. All of the rest of the storage is reserved/available exclusively for apps and user data.

Here's a snapshot of the storage use on my a500:
app_104@android:/ $ df
Filesystem Size Used Free Blksize
/dev 363M 32K 363M 4096
/mnt/asec 363M 0K 363M 4096
/mnt/obb 363M 0K 363M 4096
/system 590M 453M 137M 4096
/data 27G 1G 25G 4096
/cache 1G 19M 1G 4096
/system/vendor 97M 73M 23M 4096
/mnt/sdcard 27G 1G 25G 4096

I have about 50 apps installed. Android is using about 4GB. Between the apps I have installed and my other user data, I'm using a little over 2GB. That leaves a little over 25GB free. When I had 30 more apps installed (~80), the usage was nearly the same.

What you describe sounds like an app problem, likely some sort of memory/data leak, or possibly actual storage space use by you. It may not even be related to ICS (as opposed to HC or GB), but it could be. If the app causing this was updated recently, or you changed how you use it, it could be using storage/memory differently.

If you post the exact message you are seeing, that may provide a clue as to which specific resources you are actually running out of.

Have you looked under Settings-->Storage to identify the areas using the most space?

Have you used Settings-->Storage-->Apps to see which apps are using the most? Those using the most will be at the top of the list in that view.

Have you then looked through those higher usage apps to see how much data and cache each one is using when you see this problem?

Have you determined which partition is out of space? Is it the /data partition -- i.e. the storage space under the /sdcard directory. ...or something else?

Have you used a file manager/explorer app to examine your /sdcard directory for what may be using space there, if that is where the usage is?

If you would like further clarification of how to do any of this, don't hesitate to ask.

Mrhelper, thankyou for all your posts. You have helped me a great deal and I try to help others with things that I have had experience with on my tablet. I had someone say to clear my cache to get my drive space back. After researching I did what I thought was a cache clear and it did that and a factory reset. But it did get me back to a clean install and plenty of room for stuff. Not sure what the heck happened because U had to do a factory reset right off the bat and I didn't have many apps on it. But it kept telling me I was out of space. Now if I can get the other things working the way they are supposed to work. I still wish I could just do a go back to honeycomb. I have even thought about installing a custom rom. But with the luck I've been haveing with ICS I'm scared to death of trying a custom rom.

I updated at the end of April when we got it in Canada and all went well at first. Over the past month or so I noticed that I was getting a lot of stalling when using various apps. A web page would load and I would try to scroll and nothing and then a pop up would give me the option to Wait or exit the app. I also noticed that it took a long time to come out of sleep mode (2-3 minutes until I could use it well without slow downs)
So last night I did a Factory Reset and so far the change has been amazing! I was going to go the route of reinstalling manually all the apps but as they were backed up on Google they all just reinstalled themselves over about a 20 minute period. I used the Tablet a lot last night and had no slow downs or Force Stops or anything like that. It also comes out of sleep mode really quickly now.
I guess it just needed a refresh!
