...Not sure any of you noticed but ICS takes up prety much all available space on your Hard drive. Mine keeps telling me I don't have any drive space left to do app updates and I keep removing apps to get space back and it keeps telling me I'm out of space.
ICS only uses about 4GB of storage space on a 32GB a500. It uses about 2.5GB on my 8GB a100. It apparently uses closer to 3GB on a 16GB device. That space is reserved by the OS configuration, and it can use no more than that. All of the rest of the storage is reserved/available exclusively for apps and user data.
Here's a snapshot of the storage use on my a500:
app_104@android:/ $ df
Filesystem Size Used Free Blksize
/dev 363M 32K 363M 4096
/mnt/asec 363M 0K 363M 4096
/mnt/obb 363M 0K 363M 4096
/system 590M 453M 137M 4096
/data 27G 1G 25G 4096
/cache 1G 19M 1G 4096
/system/vendor 97M 73M 23M 4096
/mnt/sdcard 27G 1G 25G 4096
I have about 50 apps installed. Android is using about 4GB. Between the apps I have installed and my other user data, I'm using a little over 2GB. That leaves a little over 25GB free. When I had 30 more apps installed (~80), the usage was nearly the same.
What you describe sounds like an app problem, likely some sort of memory/data leak, or possibly actual storage space use by you. It may not even be related to ICS (as opposed to HC or GB), but it could be. If the app causing this was updated recently, or you changed how you use it, it could be using storage/memory differently.
If you post the exact message you are seeing, that may provide a clue as to which specific resources you are actually running out of.
Have you looked under Settings-->Storage to identify the areas using the most space?
Have you used Settings-->Storage-->Apps to see which apps are using the most? Those using the most will be at the top of the list in that view.
Have you then looked through those higher usage apps to see how much data and cache each one is using when you see this problem?
Have you determined which partition is out of space? Is it the /data partition -- i.e. the storage space under the /sdcard directory. ...or something else?
Have you used a file manager/explorer app to examine your /sdcard directory for what may be using space there, if that is where the usage is?
If you would like further clarification of how to do any of this, don't hesitate to ask.
