Question: I just flashed AOKP cause I saw that you managed to get rid of the status bar or make it transparent, how did you do that?

Q2: Is your status bar still there if you swipe down in that area or is it gone all together? When I try to make it transparent it doesn't look right when I open apps, it just appears white and it looks ugly.

Q3: Does it make the dimensions bigger when you remove the persistent Google Search Bar with AOKP? Cause thats something I'd like to do as well and can't seem to pull it off. I disabled google search on my phone to make it go away but I dont want that. I use google search I just dont find it necessary to have on every screen when I have the button on the Nav bar.

Sorry for so many questions.I'm a new rooter and a frustrated one at that lol. When I try and look for this info I just see stuff from months ago and wasn't sure if there was an update that makes this possible with AOKP?

Q1: You change the setting in the launcher to hide the statusbar. Since you flashed AOKP, it comes with Nova Launcher by default. Within the Nova settings, there an option in 'Look and Feel' to hide the notification bar.

Q2: Now that I mentioned Nova launcher, I'm actually using a different launcher that provides a bit more features. The launcher I'm using is Apex Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anddoes.launcher Not only can I hide the statusbar, but I can use gestures as well intiate an action. In this case, I swipe down on the home screen to drop down the notification drawer.

Q3: Removing the persistent search bar does create more space, but increasing the grid size will give you even more space to layout more icons and widgets. This is an option that's available within the launcher settings. In my current setup, I have the grid set at 5x7.

Congrats to successfully rooting your phone and flashing AOKP. Play around with the launcher settings, as I think it's the first step to customizing your home screen.

Thank you so much! You are a god (or goddess?) among men... and women!

Here's my latest...

Black wallpaper
Bobclock D3 - hours gray to match soft keys, minutes ICS blue
Beautiful Weather 1x1 - Crystalx weather skin
Circle Battery (1x1) - color matched to ICS blue / gray
Custom Folder shortcut to most used apps (star from Metro Station icons)
Smooth Calendar widget - text color matched to ICS blue (today) / gray (future events)
Drawer icons - Metro Station Icons - color matched to ICS gray
Nova Launcher
How did you manage to create the custom folder shortcut to show just the star icon without creating the typical folder view (such as "stacked," etc.)?

My apologies...figured it out and answered my own question!

Those are my favorite kind of questions!

But just for anyone else who comes along wondering the same....
If you long press the folder shortcut and select 'edit' you can change the icon and label to anything you want. I used Metro Icons and the star to represent my favorite apps.

As for folder labels, there are a couple of options. You can either NOT enter a name and leave it unnamed (though when you open the folder it will say "unnamed fodler". Or you can name it something else and then in the Nova Launcher settings there is an option under Desktop > label icons where you can hide the labels from appearing on the desktop but still have them appear when you open the folder.

I've had my Galaxy Nexus for a week -- so far really enjoying it. This is a great thread -- I've read through the most recent pages and I've learned about a lot of widgets and apps I don't think I ever would have found otherwise!

So here is my homepage and lock screen.

Nova launcher
Simple Text icons
Simple Calendar widget
SiMi Clock, Weather, and Battery
Wallpaper downloaded from Zedge

Lock screen:
Widget locker
Slider Widget (for the volume control)
Media Keys shortcuts (for the play and next buttons, with icons replaced with Simple Text)

I also love the Nova Launcher gestures and have different swipes for expanding the notification bar, show previews, start Pandora, etc.
