Help New Member, Needing Some Advice From Nexus Users (Major Issues)

Ugh...I feel so stupid reading all of this lol. I'm just so used to smart phones and what comes with the phones and the market, that I am unaware of all this limitless stuff I can do with my phone (ROM's, etc). I don't like losing all of my programs, data, etc, as like I said before, it took me forever to join all my contacts and delete the duplicates. It's something I want to try, but to be honest I am weary because of how stupid I am when it comes to doing this.

We were all at that point in the past, and to be honest, I still refuse to flash a new ROM, radio or kernel without following the instructions. But we do have excellent instructions written by some of the senior guys, who also live to help people. If you want to start, you can be certain someone will always be here and willing to help.

Once you do this once you shouldnt have to do this again. Everything should sync to google and come back the way it was pre root/rom flash. same for all your apps. Once you wipe, install the rom and login to google on the phone, it should start pulling down everything. The only thing you h ave to do is relogin to the apps like facebook or twitter again.

Even if you decide to go the way of a new phone and not root it, when you get a replacement, the same thing as above should happen all automatically. Only thing you gotta do is setup the screens with the apps on each page you want and widgets.

If your on the fence, I would recommend trying one more replacement assuming you can get it all for free. If that one still has issues, you have nothing to lose (except a phone lol) and give root/rom a whirl.

Since we seem to have similar issues, I have decided to keep the phone and root. I went to grab a new phone tonight and there is nothing that I like as much as this device. Between size, LTE, and ICS there is no better product on the market at this time in my opinion. I was even willing to get a One X (I have already trialed it and was impressed) on AT&T but the storage is just too low. So for the time being I am going to make the best of this device.

I am not exactly the most technical person, but rooted my original nexus, old winmo phones, and jailbroken my iPhones. If you follow the instructions you will have no problem. These forums and XDA have great resources, so good luck and don't be afraid to ask for help. Here's to hoping we can find a great radio.

As for battery issues, I bought the extra battery and charger from Verizon and think it is the best solution. For 30 bucks you can always have your backup battery charged. For me this means when I am home I can use my phone without being tethered to a charger the whole time like other devices. Secondly, the batteries are so small they easily fit in a pocket when you head on the road. Doesn't fix the issue per se but is a fairly good way to have all day battery life with a little inconvenience.

Good luck again.

+1 on this. I chose to get the charger/stand with the extra battery and Y-cable on launch day and that's one decision I haven't regretted. I almost bought the extended battery but when I thought about it, this option seemed the best for me. You're right, it doesn't "fix" the issue, but it's a good alternative.

Well, you won't lose your contacts/info as long as you are syncing them to google's services.... and all your apps will come back. The only thing you'd really lose is things like ringtones you've selected and other custom settings like that. Also, I think you would probably lose application data but I am not sure (ie. levels achieved on games or in-app settings). Not sure if google backup saves this stuff or if you'd need a 3rd party app like titanium to save the data.

Hey guys. I thought this over yesterday afternoon and evening at work. I will share with you a quick story. As you know, I have the extended battery for the Verizon Nexus and are having reception issues with the phone. I fully charged my phone to 100% and took it off the charger at 3 pm. I used it to text a few times and check facebook real quick until I got to work at 4 pm. while I was at work, I used it to text and check facebook real quick, nothing more than that. I was down to 15% battery life by 6:30 pm. Did I mention that I had no bars of service in an area where I used to have 3 to 4 bars? I was frustrated as hell. The screen is set to 10%, i took the facebook and twitter widgets off my homescreen yesterday afternoon, and don't have alot of background processes going on.

I decided today to call in and request a new phone and battery. They wouldn't send me an new battery as they want me to try the new phone first and see if that works at all for me. So I guess we will see if a new phone makes any difference, as I am hoping so.

I will keep you guys updated as to what happens with the new phone. I am wondering if there is a way to keep my contacts as they are now before moving over to the new phone, as I spent alot of time deleting duplicates and then joining them with facebook contacts sync..took me a few hours and I would like to save my time not doing that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can't help with the joining and getting all of your contacts straight but I will say this: UNLOCK your bootloader before you set this phone up. That way, you will be unlocked and won't have to suffer a factory reset if you keep it and decide to root it. If it doesn't work out and you end up returning the phone, it is easy enough to relock the bootloader.
