I was just told I have a Optimus Hub Phone. How can i tell if it is rooted or not? I bought it at a Baja Pawn Shop! There is a red star or spot over the bars that show the signal strength. There are NO bars. It has a Moviestar sim card in it from Mexico. How or what do i do to make it work. I am a noob to this android type phone but know the iPhone I had before this one. Thanks for any help.

Model Number LG E510g
Android Version 2.3.4
Kernel Version 2.6.35.10
Build Number GRj22
Software Version LG-E510g-V10b

You should have a Superuser app in the app drawer. If not download root checker from the market.
Okay, you got to explain to me like I am a dummy! where is the app drawer and what does it look like? If I do not have it then how do I download the root checker, can it be done getting connected to internet, if yes where do i go and how do i do this.
Thanks so much, seems much different than the iPhone. But I'm sure to get the hang of it with ur help!

Okay I found superuser and when I ran superoneclick, to root the phone the superuser disappeared! What do I do next. I still have the red spot over the bars and it is not reading the sim card which is for that calling company "Movistar"
When you say MARKET what is that and where is it?

There a four icons on the bottom of the screen. The square icon should be for your app drawer where all your apps are kept.

You should see an app on the screen or in the drawer that says market or play. When you open it up it will take you to where you can download paid and free apps. Root checker is a free app.

In order to use the market/play store you have to be signed into a google account.
Do you have a google account?

Yes I do have a google account that is connected through gmail on the phone. The 4 Icons at the bottom are ... green phone, contacts, messaging, applications!
There is an app that says "playstore" if you click on Home screen, I just noticed that there are 4 apps if clicking the Home Screen button. which are Movistar, Gmail, Playstore, Camera. "Superuser" came back on the desktop screen after restarting the Phone. I see NO Market or Play by itself Apps on the desktop?

The applications button is how you access the app drawer. It is a typo on my part; PlayStore not play store. If you have the Superuser app you might be rooted.
Once you open up your PlayStore and sign in completely it will take you to the PlayStore main screen. Back out of the app, following any prompts.
Then go back into the PlayStore and download a terminal emulater (the one by Jack Palevich), and ES File Explorer.
Open up the terminal emulater and type in: su
You should be prompted by the Superuser app to allow/accept or deny. Accept/allow.
If you have a # after the su you are rooted.

If you got a $ after typing in su and you where not prompted by the Superuser app, then you are not rooted.

Note: To get the keyboard back select the menu button and select the "toogle soft keyboard option.

Now you need to check if Busybox has been installed.
Open up ES File Explorer and select the menu button and then settings.
In the settings you need to do all this:

File settings: Show hidden files, go to exit options and Others and select your preference's
View: Details
Home Directory: Delete all the /sdcard/ except for the first /
Turn on/enable: Up to Root
Turn on/enable: Root Explorer

Note: If you ever need to change, delete, or add a file/folder you need to Turn on/enable Mount File System to r/w. When your done remember to go back and Turn off/disable Mount File System to r/o.

Now Go back to the Main screen and scroll down and select: system.
Then look in the bin and xbin folder. If you have Busybox installed in one of those folders the first file should be named [ and the second should be named [[ .

If you don't see those two folders then you don't have Busybox installed and will need to go to the PlayStore and download a Busybox installer.

Open it up and select the /system/xbin (this is the xbin that was previously looked into) as the install location. The reason for this is the /system/bin is usually too full and doesn't have the room for a complete install and will give you an error.

Once done you are now ready to modd your phone.

Any Questions feel free to PM me and I will go to this thread to answer your already posted question as soon as I log in to the site.

I just read this in another post and now feel that the Sim card which says "NOT REGISTERED ON NETWORK" is possibly NOT related to why my phone does not work. Can someone tell me if u feel that is true. I'm on the fence with this one since the RED X is on top of the Signal bars(NOT next to it) top right corner next to the green batt icon which is next to the time. How do I turn on my DATA TRANSFER and if I do what does that affect on how my phone will operate!

This icon in the status bar is really irritating. how can i remove it without turning on my Data Transfer. I've noticed in other phones this icon is not present. :(

It is a standard icon and i dont think it can be removed!!

Data transferring is BLUETOOTH which when turned on another BT icon appears next to the blank bars with the RED X over it. When I turn on AIRPLANE mode the bars and RED X disappear and a airplane icon appears in place of it. More info on what I have been discovering on this LG E510g Optimus Hub Phone!
4:30 Playing around and doing more research on this phone. So far 2 things.
Under: About Phone>Status>Service Status-Out of service!
When I turn on phone after completely turning it off, music plays and Movistar with logo appears. So basically the phone only works with Movistar unless someone already messed with it to work on another company which over here is "Telcel". Is it possible it only works with Telcel now or maybe the other sim card is just no good. I will have to try a good working sim card from Movistar and if that doesn't work then try a good one from Telcel. I'll get back with you on this. And just for everyone's INFO on the RED X over the Signal bars! OUT OF SERVICE! that's it. That's what that means. Getting somewhere here.

Update!!! I just returned from my friends store and put a GOOD working Movistar sim card in the phone! Yaa! it read the card with lots of bars and NO X!!! But....
when I went to make a call it said no call service or something like that! So now i'm thinking on what someone mentioned about going to the Movistar phone company and having them do what ever they do to allow the phone to work. My buddy here says NO you don't have to do that. He said to FLASH the phone and I can use any card in it!
So, How do I flash the phone? If almost any phone can be unlocked by software makes sense
Movistar phone company, NOT needed for anything!
