This won't tell you anything. We're not a representative sample of Verizon customers. The typical android forum member almost certainly uses their phone far more than the public at large.

Verizon didn't just pull that number out of their butt. Of course as somebody who uses 5-20GB of data a month I'm not happy with this, and they are KIND of screwing me a little. But it isn't screwing the typical user, and assuming the cost structure is on par with the current tiers this can actually save alot of customers money.

EDIT: oh, the link in your post is messed up. Here is a fixed one http://support.verizonwireless.com/faqs/Calling%20Plans/data_package.html

The change? It's not a recent development. Verizon introduced tiered data plans about a year ago.

It's also only for new customers. For the time being, if you already had an unlimited plan, you still have unlimited data.

My understanding was eventually that everyone will be on this tiered plan... currently if you have a 4 g device great and are grandfathered in they won't mess with you.... how ever when you want to upgrade your phone the only way to keep your unlimited data would be to buy the phone out right.. if you know differently please let me know.

Ok. What you linked to doesn't have anything to do with that. It's talking about new customers who purchase data, not grandfathered unlimited plans.

What you're referring to is, at this point, mostly speculation based off some things a Verizon executive said. From what he said, it certainly looks like at some point Verizon wants to do what you mentioned - force people on unlimited data into tiered data when they upgrade and sign a new contract (with the option of staying on unlimited data if you do not upgrade and keep your plan month-to-month after the contract expires).

But that's certainly not official, and no one knows when/if it will go into effect. So, there haven't been any changes to get upset about yet. It's definitely something to be on the lookout for, but at this point, there's nothing official.

That appears to be the plan. Anyone who upgrades their device and doesn't pay full retail will be forced to go to a tiered plan.

Verizon to end unlimited data for upgraders

Verizon Wireless is planning this summer to begin forcing smartphone customers with unlimited data plans to switch to tiered plans when they upgrade, the company's chief financial officer told Wall Street analysts on Wednesday.

Just as comparison: I understand the technology and infrastructure are different (cable vs. 4G), but with Comcast, I pay $50/month and have an allowance of 250 gigs per month. Now with Verizon, you get 5 gigs for $50. I hope that prices come down eventually. I know 250 gigs is a lot, but even if Verizon would offer 5 gigs for $30 would be nice. For now, I am counting the days on my unlimited data plan (hopefully two more years ).

I almost didn't upgrade my phone recently because of the $30 fee. But you know for now I like what it offers and I do have unlimited data for the next two years again. I have a feeling though, that in two years time I'll be done with the "smart" phone thing if the price hike goes into effect... Besides the world is gonna end this year anyways.....;)
