Help Questions about how the 3D works on this phone

I know everyone has been talking about the several features and the guts of this phone, but I never have actually see a glasses free 3D phone before, let alone know how one works. The only glasses free device I've ever used if my Nintendo 3DS. For the guys that have seen or may have used the Evo 3D, how is the 3D like? I know the screen is way better then the cheap one in the 3DS and that the cameras are way better than the puny 0.3 megapixel cameras that the 3DS has.

I know this phone probably won't be in anyone's hands until possibly tomorrow or later, but I just want to know:

1. Can 3D be used at all times on the phone (I know it will get old rather quick, but hey, I'd like to know)

2. Is the 3D "good"? Meaning does really add a sense of depth to certain things on the phone? The 3DS's 3D is fairly underwhelming in my opinion with the exception of a few games (Ocarina of Time 3D).

3. Are there 3D apps available in the Google store for this? If so, has anyone heard anything good about them?

4. When taking a photo with the this (or Evo 3D), will it also take a 2D picture as well? The 3DS does this and it makes it easier to send picture messages.

i have used the EVO 3D for a bit and a 3DS and i can compare them.

first of all, the screen may be higher resolution, but the paralax barrier cuts the resolution in half in 3D mode, so you definately get that slight interlaced effect. its worse on the 3DS though for sure.

beyond that, certain 3d accelerated games can use the 3D screen.

heres what i found via a google search. 3D 3D Games for HTC EVO 3D(and LG Optimus 3D) - Android Software - MoDaCo

apparently gameloft supports the phone with some 3D enabled games.

the 3D effect does NOT work in android menus or anything else besides the camera, watching 3d movies or pictures, and games.

also, in my time with the EVO 3d, the angle at which the screen truly starts appearing 3D is a lot thinner than the 3DS. so youll pretty much have to lock yourself in position.

although if you are used to holding the 3DS and constantly adjusting yourself to keep the 3D in focus, it wont be a learning curve at all.

as far as how the quality of the 3D effect is, uhh i think that really differs from person to person, as how your eyes and brain work together to percieve 3D differs.

for me, It never "popped out" of the screen, but had a decent amount of depth looking in. didnt feel better or worse than the 3DS

EDIT i realized reading back this comment, its kind of confusing, let me summarize your questions in order.

1. no

2. its alright

3. a few but mostly gameloft games and a picture viewer.

4. no, it has a HUGE enormous sliding switch on the side of the phone that switches the camera from 3d to 2d modes. so yes, 2d shooting is available.

The Evo 3D has an option to convert 3D photos to 2D on the fly. In the gallery, find the 3D picture you want to convert, long press it, and there is an option to convert to 2D. It'll make a copy of the 3D picture (leaving the original 3D picture intact) and convert that copy to 2D, so you'll have a 3D pic and a 2D pic of the same thing on your SD card. Then you can send the 2D pic to anyone.

3D files use a different file format than 2D files, and most phones wouldn't even open it. Some Windows programs may show the side by side picture, though.

I believe 3D videos are also able to be converted, but I never tried.

Yeah, when I put 3D pictures from my 3DS onto my computer, it was a file that could open be opened with an Nvidia program I had (it wouldn't let me open it) due to me having an Nvidia card at the time, but I don't have a 3D monitor so that feature was useless for me. I can't imagine sending 3D pictures to another person but it's good to hear that the Evo at least gives you an option to convert them.

Thank you both for the answers. I'm hoping that I can find this phone tomorrow so I can experience it myself.

The color definitely not bad at all, may be it just me but I was having a hard time to look at the screen while taking 3d pictures. compare to the 3ds, its like you can't see anything on the side. I could only play less than 2 minutes with the 3DS because I'll get headache afterward. I stair at the evo 3d screen for like a minute and still can't figure which angle I should view at to get the best 3d view.

Does anyone know if you hook up the HDMI to a 3D tv will you be able to watch 3d movies or view your 3d pictures on your tv? I do have a 50 inch samsung 3d tv and it would be cool to be able to display the images and videos on the TV.

You will need a MHL (not mini-HDMI) connector for the Evo, but I've heard of people doing this. I have also heard that you may have black borders on the side, as the resolution may not match up 100%. It depends by brand/model.

Does anyone know if you can turn all the 3D stuff off? I don't just mean in regards to pictures, I mean all of it. I used a 3DS once, and I started getting a headache almost immediately. I really would like to get this phone, but I can't buy something that immediately nauseates me.

just becuase the screen CAN do 3D doesnt mean absolutely everything u see on it WILL be 3D at all times.

the phone will be in 2d mode until you explicitly activate a 3d app
