New to Tablets.... Which one?

So the Asus TF101A1 has caught my eye. At TigerDirect it is currently on sale at $279.99 shipped. But I'm reading the various threads and disappointments with the ICS update and whatnot. I'm also worried about buying into "outdated" technology and I'm seeing the mention/recommendation for folks in my position seeking a tablet to shoot for the Asus Transformer TF300. But it retails out at a little over $100 more...

I currently have a Droid X (I know a whole different animal than a tablet) but my reasoning into entering the tablet world is - I can hold out as far as upgrading my phone awhile longer and use the money to purchase a tablet. I'm really into "tech" and the android operating system and would very much enjoy and get a lot of use out of a tablet for browsing the internet, email, maybe some occasional gaming, and just having a sleek and portable techy device to play with :D

I also have my eye a little bit on the Motorola Xoom. How does it stack up against the ASUS? - both the TF100 and TF300?

Any general opinions on this and pointers on which way to lean?

Thanks.

If I were buying today, I think I'd go for the TF300 (I'm saying this without actually having tested one, going strictly by what I'm seeing online - it could be that in real life I wouldn't like it as much as the TF101).

I personally preferred the TF101 over the Xoom, but it was the little, personal preference, type of stuff that push me that way. I'm not saying the TF101 is better, just that it's UI and placement of ports and such suited me better.

The last update of ICS has all but solved the problems(.24 build). I have been running over 400 hours without any problems.
The 101 is a good device it will do virtually everything you would want. The avaialbility of the keyboard for all the ASUS TF's is a plus.
I bought the TAB first and after a month I decided to get the KB, I use it both ways I also purchased a book like case to put the TAB in when I'm using it with out the KB.(Caseen)
Memory wise even if you get the 16GB you will have more than enough storage unless you download every APP you see. For movies, MP3s, and pics you can put them on a MSD or with the dock a MSD, SD, & USB.
Which ever you decide to get I believe that you will be happy.

The latest firmware update fixed my issues with the tablet. It is working better than ever now.

The TF101 has been out for over a year now. The TF300 is this year's model. I don't know much about the TF300, so I cannot comment on it. No doubt the TF300 will be faster and smoother. I tried one of the new Asus tablets (not sure exactly what model) and I definitely noticed the difference. You'll have to decide if you want to spend more money on something newer.

Not sure if you are considering other tablets. My assessment of the Asus tablets is that if you want a keyboard, nothing else has anything better than the Asus.
