Loving My Incredible - Again

After more than a year of use and two major updates my Dinc was beginning to lag. I mean really lag big time. I was down to only 7mb left of available space for my apps even though I moved everything I could to the sd card and clearing cache did absolutely nothing. I use my Dinc as a business tool as well as for entertainment so I was contemplating moving on. I finally decided to reset the phone and start from scratch even knowing what a pain in the A$$ it would be to reset all of my home screens and apps just the way I like them. We lo and behold, after resetting I now have 113 mb of app storage with all of the same apps reinstalled and the phone is zippy once again! My apps load super qquick and the internet is fun again. Now I remember why this phone was so great to start with. I still keeps up with most of the newer phones and the size and amoled screen are perfect.
Just Incredible.....

agreed. i ran stock for a year and half... finally decided to root to fix the low disk space message. once i got the hang of rooting and flashing it was all downhill. i just install stock+ rom and kernel yesterday and so far it's great! still looks like my stock phone but is much snappier and i haven't had any little bugs pop up. i've also starting some tweaks like a mod to turn off the soft key leds (bugged me all the time while reading my phone in the dark). this really is the perfect phone. nexus appears to the be the next step although i'm really not wanting a larger sized phone... so it appears i may stick with the incredible as long as possible. rooting allows you to keep it fresh and new if you'd like.

I run the stock+ Rom as well, have since it's first release. To me it makes the perfect phone. I have a backup Inc that I flashed an ICS rom on... I have to say, I'm not impressed with ICS. I like HTC Sence look feel much better! To each their own, but IMO Sence looks much more polished.

Same as OP. Been running an unrooted DI for almost two years and things were starting to lag. Did a factory reset and once again amazed at how fast this phone is. Thought long and hard about which apps I really wanted to reinstall and probably only did about 2/3. Phone is running great.

All that said, I think I'm going to try the iPhone 5 when its released this year. Been on an Android device for over two years now and simply ready to try something new. Will hand my DI down to my wife who is still on a rooted Eris. She'll love the DI.

Why not throw miui on your incredible. Either gb or ics and see if you really want to move to iPhone. While iPhone does a few things well, I can't imagine going to a phone I can't customize

Yeah, just root the puppy. I can see holding off while you're still on warranty (although rooting gives you the ability to fix most software problems and if you run into a hardware issue you can almost always either unroot, or you're phone will be too borked for Verizon/HTC to know whether you were rooted or not). But you're warranty expired a year after you bought the phone.

My wife just got the low space warning for the first time. I think I'll root her phone

Isn't the biggest problem changing over to the IPhone, the fact that you lose all your apps that you bought or got for free from the market? I mean won't I have to pay for things like Birds, Weatherbug Elite, Soundhound Infinity, etc. if I switch to IPhone? That does not sound like an upgrade to me.

I've had the Dinc since release. Never rooted it. It was feeling old and slow so I rooted it 2 months ago and completely overhauled it (ROM/Kernel/Radio/Tweaks/Mods). I feel like I just bought a brand new phone for free! Its insane. Literally, EVERYTHING is faster, snappier, and battery efficient....also more feature rich. In a way, I'm glad I held off on rooting until recently. Makes me enjoy my phone all over again without shelling out dough for another.

So true. Preach on brother. And its not that difficult. it really really works. But I'm still eyeing the incredible 4g for my final new every two discount.

ON average, How long after a Phone's 1st release do Dev's figure out how to root it? I wouldn't wanna scoop up a brand new phone unless I could root it and throw something like CM9 on it.

Depends on the phone. A lot of highly anticipated devices have had their code leaked and a root made available before they reach us stateside. Most seem to be rooted within the first month. Rooting has become a perfected art in the past couple years.

just started my own thread on which would be the best rom to flash and the stumbled upon this thread. what do you guys think is the most user friendly and stable rom? i see some have mentioned the stock+. what is that and where can i find it for download.
im happy with the stock GB rom but just want to be able to fix a few things.
i would like to , get rid of all the verizon bloatware, fix the "low space" message , be able to use the phone to tether, and also be able to stop all the ota update messages... i am rooted with the stock froyo with s-off.
i do agree though as of right now since the phone has had a factory reset done it is soooooo much faster and better than before!
