(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

Well, good luck. I'm not very optimistic for you, though. :( How often was it happening to you?

Also, I thought updating the PRL was a no-no on this phone (or all LTE phones?). There have been reports of "ghost PRL updating" which then causes phones to burn through battery like crazy. So beware on that...

Im not very optimistic either. However, its gotten less frequent with each leaked radio iteration. I experience it more when running custom roms.. not sure why.

I have an upgrade available on my 2nd line. I just want to get to a point where this only happens rarely and this POS is going to my fiancee. She is not a techy so it will be a pretty big upgrade over her og Dinc. I'm currently researching my next phone now.
*if I can't get to a point that I am confident enough in the GNex as phone to give it to her then we're out. Paying ETF and will be moving to a new carrier. Then will sell the GNex to cover the ETF.

*Edit
Updating the PRL hasn't caused me any issues. Was able to revert back by pulling sim and battery and rebooting... after additional reading PRL is prob best left alone.

Has anyone noticed their phone dimming and brightening up at points during use? I have my phone set to automatic brightness and when I'm using the phone regularly (opening text messages, checking calendar events, etc) the screen increases in brightness as I transition to the new screen and then dims down to the proper brightness.

*raises hand*

No update yet. I'm a little south of Chicago, IL.

The funny thing is that my husband who could care less about the update (he's only had the phone for maybe 2 weeks) got the update Friday...

Me who's has had the phone since Dec 15th...still waiting... "Your system is currently up to date"... grr

YAY! Finally got my update! Had to use the "Google Services Framework" method (Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 Update: How To Trigger It Now), but I got it! Only one question - dod the update do anything to fix the "SMS message sending" bug? I haven't had a chance to try yet - just wanted to know if anyone else had any thoughts.

As Homer Simpson said once, "OH, WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY!"

I was able to use the Google Services Framework reset trick to get the update, but I have another problem. When I tried to install the update, my phone got stuck on the reboot. It showed the Android lying down with an open panel and a red triangle (with a "!" in it) above him.

The phone restarted, but its still on 4.0.2. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? My phone is unlocked and rooted but running stock.

I had the same problem. I, however, had previously flashed the leaked .03 radios. Once I went back to the 4.0.2 radios it worked like a charm.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 Update: How To Trigger It Now

How to trigger the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0.4 update now

Head over to the settings in your Galaxy Nexus handset and choose Apps>all and make a search for Google Services Framework. When the phone has located this simply tap on it and then choose “Force stop”. Following this click on “clear data” and then hit the back key to come out of the apps and back to the about page in settings and then all you need to do is check for a system update. If it doesn’t work the first time then you may have to repeat these steps a couple of time before you get it. Good luck!

If it works, I'll try it. That really should have been in the press release though.

Well I factory reset my phone. I don't use my phone alot but I've made about 10 calls the past 36 hours and no mic going mute. That has to be a record for me because it was almost guaranteed to go mute in the first 3 calls. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's fixed.

I just got the ota but when it powers off to install it gives me the dead android with a reg triangle?

I'm rooted not rommed on Verizon
Do I really need to go back to factory to install this?

I am having the same problem. After some searching around, here's what I found:
If you hold power and press volume up, you'll get the Reboot menu, and you can then try to install from Cache (the update file will be there). In my case, it didn't work, it would start the install, run a verification, and on a 2nd verification attempt the whole process would fail.

I tried a factory reset from there, and it didn't help, still get the red triangle, so if you have a lot of settings you don't want to go through all over again, don't bother with the reset.

I'm also rooted (and unlocked) but never flashed any ROMS so its still stock.

Hopefully someone can provide a solution.

My Volume has been much lower since the update for ringtones and messages.
I have the app Volume plus. The volume was much louder prior to the update.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yup, mine is definitely lower. I DO NOT have any volume apps installed. I got by with the volume levels as they were, and after the update I noticed they are significantly lower.

Bummer.

Weird, why would a factory reset on stock firmware fix it where a factory reset with AOKP which is AOSP 4.0.4 based not? If Verizon is sneaking crap into their OTA that fixes critical stuff like this and not pushing it back to AOSP, shame on them.

Here's what I've noticed from the 4.0.2 --> 4.0.4 switch:

Power off menu is different, now includes sound/vibrate/silent controls
Screen auto-rotate seems faster/more responsive
Overall UI feels faster/smoother/more responsive
Radios (both CDMA and LTE) have been updated
-------This should mean better reception, fewer dropped calls etc... I never had that problem but a lot of people have, this is supposed to make it better. This is probably the main one everybody is concerned with so can anyone confirm?
Voice to text is to SO much better, jesus god.
Very quick 3g-4g hand off
Camera is updated
Fixed landscape keyboard lag (thank god, that was so annoying)
Fixed USB file transfer issue (at least for me it did, windows 7 64-bit, please confirm)
A few of the icons look different
Quadrant score on 4.0.2 was 1930, 4.0.4 is 2113 (stock kernels/governors)
Allegedly battery life is better (haven't tested it enough to see, please confirm)

IS STILL ROOTABLE, check in main root sticky for a link to SU that is confirmed working with 4.0.4

I use nova launcher so there may be few things I missed, or forgot. But that's just what i've noticed. Everyone post up the new things you've noticed and lets all just make a big list.
