Google now offering a AT&T 3G compatible Nexus One!

Ok guys. After having the phone for almost a full day I LOVE IT! Lost visual voicemail but I set up my voicemail to go through google voice. It works much better since you can read the transcribed message like a text when someone calls during class. So awesome! I'm also considering giving out my google number and then using free sms and saving 20 dollars off my AT&T plan. Google navigation has been good too. Seems to hold the signal well while driving.

I mentioned yesterday that I had a bit of 3G trouble when I first plugged in my sim. That all seemed to clear up an hour after. I usually have 2-4 bars and the signal rarely drops to edge. I ran speedtest throughout the day and they were all very consistent. Between the bay area/solano and sacramento county in CA I averaged around 1.5/1 speeds. A few tests even came in above 2mbps down. Browsing the web on the 3G network is almost as fast as using wifi.

I am very happy with the phone so far. It feels great to finally experience something other than the iphone OS.

Yeah. People talk bad about AT&T's network but here in Northern Ca I get good speeds until I'm in San Francisco or the San Jose area. They ARE improving it though and even deploying more towers. They started upgrading to the 850mhz 3G signal in a lot of places which gives me a full bars in buildings like the office I work in.

Course someone else's experience might not be as good as mine. AT&T pretty much blankets most of California with 3G. Outside of this state I'm not sure if you can travel all over and always hold a 3G signal like I do here. Maybe then you'd want to sacrifice the sim card slot and go with Verizon's version.

Anyone who has the ATT Nexus one can you tell me if ATT has any apps blocked in the market? Reason why I ask is I saw this post in another section and its giving me second thoughts about replacing my iPhone with the ATT Nexus one, I might just wait for the VZW version.
I know att attempts to prevent unsigned app installation on their droids -but how much are the censoring the marketplace for general commercial applications?

Fandango - the well known movie ticket website/service has an android app that is avail on verizon and t-mobile but it doesn't show when searching from an ATT N1. It also won't install from the bar code on the fandango site.

There are a number of other applications that are not appearing. How much of the marketplace does the carrier control and will this lead to completely different android experiences depending on carrier?

Amen to that. The ONLY thing that will stop me from switching from the iPhone is if the actual voice service is worse. Please keep us posted but a switching from 3G to Edge is not a good omen.

i'm currently using the t-mobile nexus on ATT edge.

the voice quality is substantially better than my iphone 3g. I was shocked at how bad the call quality actually was on that phone.

Not only that but the noise reduction on the N1 is bitchin! I can walk next to the road and talk to people and they say they can barely here the cars. It really does work pretty well.

my ATT version should be here tomorrow. I'll update with any differences b/w them, but honestly i think it's the same exact phone.

i'm trying to figure out how they possibly could block anything?!? They have no control over the phone at any stage. They have zero control over android market. The only thing they're delivering is data and i don't think they have the capability to discriminate what is what.

Would any of you guys run some 3G download/upload tests just for stats' sake?

I have a page full of speed tests I would be happy to share. Not sure how to take a screenshot though. On the iphone it was a matter of holding and pressing a button. On an android phone I'm not so sure. XD

hit the search button then click the result, "fandango.com" then it takes you to their site so you can DL it from them.

open system buddy!

Tried that too and it failed. Same issue that th0r mentioned. :<

Received the ATT 3G Nexus One a few hours ago. Drove around town and didn't lose 3G signal once. Ran a few speed tests and averaged about 2000kbps down/ 1500 up. Compared to my buddies T-Mobile 3G here, he got about 800kbps down and 500kbps up. Needless to say I'm pleased, considering I had been using the N1 on ATT Edge.

Things are just blazing fast on this now.

The only bug is this marketplace deal. Can't get some of my apps I had before. I read on the google forum that it is a deal with the market reading the updated firmware or version on the new Nexus One's. I anticipate it's a problem that'll be fixed very shortly.

Could the Market see what carrier your on and block the apps that are on that carrier's black list? Isn't that what happened with the tethering apps on T-Mo android phones?
